Know the ground realities first
by Jimmy on Jan 18, 2007 06:40 AM  Permalink

Hi,
I am in norfolk where the ship is stationed. Indian navy personnel are here in norfolk to take over the ship. We got the ship dirt cheap for the price we paid for it. India is also getting the technology to make landing platform dock ships. If I am not wrong then India atleast plans to make 3 such ships. As per earlier report we are also planning to create and deploy "Naval Marines" battalion for the first time. I think its step in right direction. Only couple of countries have technological knowhow to make such huge ships. It takes decades and billions of dollars in reasearch. But I agree a start has to be done some place. So we should start investing in R&D in defence big time.

Can you stop running behind US
by Prashanth KV on Jan 18, 2007 06:38 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If India had to buy the best war ship then they should have got Verkhotur'e (K 51)-The russian war ship which is far more better than USS Trenton and costs almost half the price as well.

Why dont you realise that this is not going to go long and the government has no rights to waste the hard working Indian's tax.

HEY READERS
by SRINIVASA GOWDA on Jan 18, 2007 06:29 AM  Permalink

DO ES ANYONE KNOW WHEN, HOW AND HOW MUCH OF THE ALLOCATED BUDGET COMES TO THE ALLOCATED DEFENCE ESTABLISHMENTS? I HAVE WORKED IN DRDO AS WELL IN ISRO SATELLITE CENTRE. EVEN THOUGH HUGE MONEY IS ALLOCATED ONLY SOME PORTION COMES AND EVERY RUPEE HAS TO BE EXPLAINED AS TO HOW ITS SPENT. ITS A LONG PROCESS AND TIME PASSES BY IN THESE PROCEDURES. BUT WHAT I WANT TO ASSURE IS THAT TECHNOLOGY AND PEOPLE IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ARE MORE POWERFULL THAN ALIEN R&D'S. ITS DIFFICULT TO GET THE AMOUNT SANCTIONED. BUT WHY DONT TAX PAYERS ASK THE GOVT. TO SPEND MONEY THAT THEY HAVE POCKETED? WHY ARE U ALL NOT ASKING POLITICIANS TAX DECLARATION PAPERS? OR FOR THAT SAKE DOES ANYONE ASK THEM INCLUDING DEPT. OF TAXATION? HAHA. U PEOPLE ASK THESE POLITICIANS TO GIVE SELF DECLARATION OF THEIR ASSETS. THEN U WILL KNOW EACH LS MEMBER HAS MORE MONEY THAN ALLOCATED BUDGET TO ENTIRE DEFENCE SECTOR. NOT TO BE SURPRISED READERS. ALL NEED BACKING AND ENCOURAGEMENT. PLEASE DO IT. WE INDIANS ARE NOT BACK IN ANYTHING. ONLY WE NEED TO SEE THAT WE USE WHAT SHOULD BE USED AND WHAT NOT. LIKE WE USE MOST OF FOREIGN BRANDS THAN INDIAN. FOR EXAMPLE, WE BUY FORIEGN BRANDED CLOTHES WHILE THEY ALL ARE STITCHED IN INDIAN TWEXTILE INDUSTRIES. SO WE PAY MORE FOR OUR OWN WORK. HAHAHAHHAA. WHAT A PITY? THAN INDIANS IN BACK HOME, NRI'S ARE MORE LEANED TOWARDS CULTURE AND PATRIOTISM. I THINK THE REASON IS UNLESS WE LOOSE SOMETHING WE WONT KNOW THE REAL VALUE. HAHAHAH. ANYWAYS HOPE READERS UNDERSTAND ME AS I HAVE EXPLAINED THROUGH EXAMPLES. PLEASE BE INDIAN AND USE ONLY INDIAN GOODS. TYHAT'S ONE OF THE WAY TO BOOST OUR ECONOMY AND OVERTAKE USA. TIME FOR ACTIONS AND NOT THINKING.

Junks dumpyard
by raj gane on Jan 18, 2007 06:06 AM  Permalink

This is a big slap on our defence research establishments which are involved in defence research for years but output is none. I don't know what they do with all the funds that they get. This should be a wakeup call for all our defence researchers to get their act together before our country becomes a paradise of junks.

Utilise our resources
by L shankar on Jan 18, 2007 04:16 AM  Permalink

Its time for India to provide jobs in research and development in defence rather than making our people to work for MNCs. India has enough intelligent Engineers if we make proper use of our own resources we can make even better and advanced ships rather than buying old junk from US and Russia. But our government should provide more jobs and invest in R&Ds

best partner!
by sam pate on Jan 18, 2007 02:36 AM  Permalink

well dudes.. the point of buying this is to increase the strategic relationship with the US. this "piece of junk" as one of the scholars below calls it is the BEST warship (technologically speaking) that India will have in a long time. You think it's wise trying to make our on! Half the money will be pocketed by Laloo yadav and the other morons.. and we'll make a peice of floating metal that the Vikrant is.. I've been on it.. being a naval guy myself...
