God save our system
by Magont on Jan 18, 2007 05:33 PM  Permalink

It is interesting to know that a former President of India and the current Chief Justice are eligible for reservation under the new Government policy!!! If a dalit can become the chief justice of India and of course (former) President, we need to think why we need 50% reservation? These are people who defied all odds (remember they are not even from current generation which is much better off) and grew to the top. Hence the argument of them being from a deprived class is baseless. Reservation has to be based on economic categorization (I know this has been said time and again) Arjun Singh should stop playing games with people of India, and let his grey cells work in a more advanced manner. Also, it is to be notice the kind of progress that the state of Kerala has made. Remember, that is the only state in India where you find Hindus, Muslims and Christians in almost equal proportion - yet with no communal riots! The other states should learn from Kerala...

happiest moment in indian history
by bs jatav on Jan 17, 2007 01:07 PM  Permalink

it is a very pleasant moment to see a dalit CJI. really it shows the mature democracy in india when PM is a Sikh, President is a Muslim and CJI is dalit. really we feel proud on our country. definately this period will be the land mark in indian legal history.

Justice Balakrishnan's journey to top
by UNNIKRISHNA RAMAN on Jan 17, 2007 11:48 AM  Permalink

In fact,he deserves it. It is proven that anyone irrespective of their caste or religion can come to the top in our motherland. It is painful to see that people are first counting the caste, religion etc. etc. before going into their personal merits they achieved throughout their life. For example, even when Mr.K.R.Narayanan or Dr. Abdul Kalam became presidents of India, the same type of narrow minded persons could feel a dalit becoming president or a muslim becoming president. First of all they are all Indians. I don't know after achieving independence before so many decades, why people could not become real Indians.Even certain political parties express their political wisdom in such cases only with an eye on the vote Banks. It is shameful.. Justice at last.
by Keshav Prasad on Jan 17, 2007 11:46 AM  Permalink

With a Dalit Chief Justice of India justice seems to have been done to one of the three pillars of Indian Constitution. I am looking forward to a day when a Dalit Prime Minister takes his seat as Head of the Government. After all how many years it must take to have a Dalit Prime Minister ? 58 years should be enough keeping in view the expectation of our Constitution makers to end the social disparity in ten years or so.

by krishnan c on Jan 17, 2007 11:02 AM  Permalink

we are extremely proud of the achievement of Sri.KGB !! This will surely serve as a signal to the world that India has shaken off its not too glorious record with people from the less priveleged classes of society. This will also give a lot of belief to the Dalits in our country that they will come up if they work hard.Merit will never go unnoticed.
