An Unfortunate Incident
by Susan George on Jan 16, 2007 11:53 AM  Permalink

The murder of Stephen Benette is no doubt an unfortunate incident. The Indian police has to cooperate with his mother and give the right reports, otherwise in future if such incidents happen nobody will ever trust the police. his incident is an eye opener to other tourists who might think twice about travelling to India.

indian police
by Akhilesh Kumar on Jan 16, 2007 10:20 AM  Permalink

My heart felt condolence for Stephen. Indian police, most of them are thugs, they are insensitive to the the people security need, Being indian make no difference wrt to policing, thats reflected in the working their working style in Noida where many young girls were abducted and raped by the affluent right under the nose of police. Its very shameful and i hope Justice is given to Maureen.

Restore the faith in the Police pse
by Sabyasachi Sarkar on Jan 16, 2007 05:55 AM  Permalink

Everything apart we need to restore the faith in the competence of our police and the fact that our nation is not a jungle but has been and continues to be a great civilisation. It is not because of proving any point to a foriegn country but simply based on the premise that society anywhere must be just and fair. That decency and ethics must be preserved ,that justice must prevail!

Why didnt he use the embassy
by Joseph Fernandez on Jan 16, 2007 03:48 AM  Permalink

I am saddened by the fact that we had a loss of life. This shouldn't have happened. Why didnt he use the British Embassy? He could call his mum but didn't have the time to seek protection from the embassy?

First things first, it is sad that someone died that far away from their family.

The responses are crazy, few people say it's OK to ignore others as they did the same to us long time back, then what's the difference between them and us?

Then some are blaming India (Police) for this. Why can't you trust your own people. I know we are not the great, but don't say we are the least important people. Lot needs to be improved, but self-disrespect is not the answer for that.

Let's find who did that and what is the truth behind it rather than pointing fingures at each other.

Very Tragic
by INDRANEEL CHANDRA on Jan 16, 2007 01:19 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It's a very sad and painful to hear someone lose his life after coming to our country as a guest. We should hang our heads in shame and offer all possible assistance to his family and friends. As this involves a person from a friendly country, the CBI should step in.

Its a shame!!
by saptarshi biswas on Jan 16, 2007 12:29 AM  Permalink

Any incident or harm on any Indian in Britain or else where cannot justify the mysterious murder of stephen. First my heartfelt sympathy to his mother, children, wife and all near and dear ones. May God rest his soul in peace!! And secondly, the police investigating his death I would say pls wake up and bring the guilty to justise, it will not bring stephen back but will reinforce faith in humanity.

RE:let british die
by rajat chandel on Jan 16, 2007 12:16 AM  Permalink
Dear Madhu ,
I cannot believe your comments, I seriously hope that you may either be some juvenile , too young to understand or may be too senile to comprehend the loss of a mother. How can you equate the unjust & unhuman treatment metted out to a family of a person ,who's found dead in mysterious circumstances, with something that happenned 55 years ago. Grow up man !!!

Madam,
I do understand the mother-child point of view. however, just think about the way Indians are treated in the western developed world. it does need a thought. We Indians think the foreigners are from a better society. i have lived in UK for 5 yrs and in US for 4 yrs, i know how it is here. everything is same.

again, i am not defending madhu but just trying to let you know that in the flat world, you find this everywhere.
