DP T :
Well observed. This judgement and the judgement two days back on the Court's power to scrutinise Parliament's decisions can be read together to foresee the next blow to this Govt. on the OoP Bill........I am awaiting that.

Stop the ridiculous caste based reservation system. It is about time. If at all there is any preferential treatment, it should be based on economic criteria only.

Good decision

The apex court has done the right thing by willing to strike down laws in the 9th schedule contradictory to the basic features of the constitution.

Somebody should take the political goons of Tamilnadu to task for putting in reservation quota of 69% (plus veterans quota of another 10% for a total of almost 80% quota). Imagine a country where 80 % of the people are getting into colleges based on an accident of birth and nothing more. That is Tamilnadu!!Agreed, the caste system of the past was precisely based on that. That past grievances cannot be used for wreaking havoc on modern day minority Hindu communities is the core message of the Indian constitution. That is what this ruling should eventually do.

These reservation laws are clearly discriminatory to certain minority hindu groups and they should be struck down. Additionally, we should challenge the new reservation laws in IITs, IIMs, BITS,Pilani etc.

The supreme court is the final arbiter that upholds the basic laws of the constitution which explicitly seeks to prevent discrimination on the basis of caste, religion, gender etc.

This is a really good judgement. The parties which come to power frame rules to get votes. This is what is precisely happening in mordern society.Nobody is talking of development issues : Mulayam is worried about Muslim votes,Ramvilas is worried about backward votes , Congress does not want to be left behind hence increased reservations for backward classes and is also talking of bringing reservation in private cos.
We Indian are committed to removing poverty and backwardness from our society. But this should not be discriminatory or for the purpose of getting votes.Every Indian irrespective of caste should be treated equally and should equally avail benifits of our govt policies. We should have a time frame for such things and after some point such benifits should be withdrawn.
Industrial houses and businessmen should come forward and help govt in removing backwardness and poverty.
