The emergency is a temporary respite from chaos. But as the Indian experience shows is not a cure. The Hasina coalition may come to power in the next polls(when and if held)but it is more a marriage of convenience rather than bonding. As in India Indira's counterpart in Bangladesh would come to power again and the prospects of the coalition coming back to power would be postponed.The mistake in India was making Jansangh as a partner in the post-emeregency government. It gave a philip to a party which was down to mere two seats and it jumpped to 92 and then to form the government. In Bangladesh the rank commuanal forces would similarly be strengthened unless Hasina reconsiders her step.
