Good one

BS Prakash's articles are heartwarming and always bring a smile to my face. I am hoping some day you will come out with your experiences in book form.

On another note, some of the comments left here leave me totally baffled. Is the Rediff community really this shallow? This is a column, people, not a piece of journalism. Get over it.

Some additions
by on Jan 11, 2007 10:03 PM  Permalink

The article was a light hearted way of trying to relate to what it meant to be an american. I would just like to add in....not what it takes to be an american, but what the social america makes you....or atleast people who are just blinded by the freedom.

In USA people strive for independence and individuality, but most of them, and esp the naturalised people who came in due to the attraction to Americas glory tend to move towards losing the sense of belongingness to their roots. I am not generalising this for all, but some people just forget who they are, what values they come from.....and eventually end up being in the middle of nowhere....neither proper american nor properly belonging to their own mother land.

But one thing that is really admirable about the real Americans is their pride and love for their motherland....rest all are just there for opportunity sake.

Why were you looking at a description ?
by biz Narayan on Jan 11, 2007 02:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr Prakash,
I wouldn't agree that looking compulsively for a description, including in 'whatever' is an Indian trait as such, rather it is a confusion left by the colonial slander.

This is not the first nor the last time that Rediff has published such meaningless scribbles from Mr Prakash

I agree with SriKrishnan. I just cannot understand the motivation of the absuers and also why should a column add value to you whole life- go read a book or do social service for that and stop whining.

i think the column was very interesting and well written.

wow... a page full of crap!!
by Vikram Sagar on Jan 11, 2007 09:54 AM  Permalink

the so-called americans were the ones who killed the ones who actually resided there, and then celebrate a thanks-giving in their 'honor'. and u talk about the society being open to race?? u think a black person can come up in this society? it is all glossed and well-packaged to the outsider. this is an immature, intolerant society, and being glorified by ignorant sources like you. i am beginning to hate you rediff. u go to all lengths to cover the anniversary of WTC bombing... but, did you bother to mention in your homepage about the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary? You are proving to be more foolish when you publish such rubbish while you think u are being suave.
