ULFA an agent of India's enemies
by kunuthur srinivas on Jan 09, 2007 10:19 PM  Permalink

Since it is impossible either for the police or military to provide total security to all the citizens of the vast country like India, it becomes inevitable to issue arm licences to citizens residing in sensitive areas duly training them in use of arms for the purpose of selfdefence. There is no other option left for the governance of the country but to realize the practical situations faced by the citizens who are virtually butchered by the antisocial elemements with in the country rather than outside. There is no point in blaming all the time either Bangladesh or Pakistan when the problem of safety is internal.

STOP THE (IN)HUMANS
by on Jan 09, 2007 09:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I hail from a small town in Assam.

After high school, I moved on to pursue professional studies in West Bengal & chose to start off my career in Mumbai. The city was kind enough to overlook my Assamese origin (or was it immaterial to them), allowed me in, provided shelter, and I also landed up a job I couldn%u2019t have dreamt of elsewhere.

I fell in love with a girl from Bihar in college, and amongst apprehensions & debates with family members, also married her. In flesh & blood, one couldn%u2019t tell if she was Assamese or Bihari. Needless to say, she stood by me in every stance I took in life, no matter how risky the proposition was. Thanks to her support, mentally & financially too, today I enjoy a decent lifestyle and not only support my family well, but also pursue my hobbies & interests.

In traveling various places for studies & work, I meet people from all walks of life %u2013 some speak in English, while others prefer Hindi. It never occurs to me that I am any different from them or, they treat me differently. They are only more inquisitive about knowing more about my Homeland, its people, culture, and of course, INSURGENCY!

I, or any other Assamese elsewhere in India & Abroad welcome all such discussions, save the last. All questions asked %u2013 all of them laid to rest!

Every time this happens, I want to discuss our unforgettable quest for freedom & the victorious tales that followed, I feel like explaining the picturesque valleys & why this beautiful state is called EVERGREEN, I wish to mention Joymoti in all exuberance & narrate tales of Tejimola which my Dad used as ammunition to put me to sleep as a child.

Has this become so innate of my Xunor Oxom that every time I feel like talking about my Motherland, I am rendered speechless by a single reference statement of a heinous act by some banned, inhuman activist group in the past %u2013 which only bears semblance to barbaric groups the world has earlier witnessed & condemned?

Killing innocent %u201CHindi Speaking%u201D people to prove one%u2019s existence in itself speaks a lot about the hollow ideologies of the (in)humans behind it. This is known to all of us, and may be we all await justice.

But here is an example of what is the outcome of awaiting justice:

Why is justice selectively meted out to people in America's bad books (Saddam, Milosevic, etc) and not others like Saudi & UAE rulers (routing money for terrorism), Neighboring Nations (training terrorists), Sudanese Govt. (Darfur genocide), Pinochet (Chilean dictator who supported UK against Argentina in Falklands War in 80's)?

So, sitting home awaiting ministerial delegates & justice may just not help. It is time we openly raised our voices, not to prevent innocent killings, not to fight terrorism, not to save Assam%u2019s reputation, but to STOP THESE (IN)HUMANS.

My Wife now wants to learn Assamese fluently before she steps into my hometown during the next visit to my parents, due to fear of %u201Cgetting caught%u201D as a Hindi speaking citizen.

My Mom does not know if she should feel triumphant, (she always wished that her daughter-in-law spoke fluent Oxomia) OR, feel ashamed that her Son wed her and got her to a land where this weirdest discrimination existed.

seems our corrupt polictical class has created enough right from North to South, East to West by festering anti national, anti social elements with narrow objectives of garnering votes.

But i guess its difficult to change this system

ULFA, an Agent of the Enemy
by on Jan 09, 2007 09:44 PM  Permalink

There is no ULFA, there is only Bangladesh and its Muslims who are helped by other Muslims in India and from outside. If we do not realise who the enemy is we will get wiped out in due course.

Never saw ULFA activists in large groups in decades of my stay across Assam
by on Jan 09, 2007 09:19 PM  Permalink

ULFA has never existed as a large group at any part of Assam since it's creation. If ULFA is able to call the cold blooded shots since its inception, its only because the Assamese community in general is supportive to anyone who speaks/claims to be assamese than others, without giving any thoughts about what is ethical/ unethical.Religion has always been a secondary criteria for differentiating people within the society in Assam-the first criteria for differentiating people within assam has always been the mother tongue. Its already late that the people of assam had realised that -Attachments towards one's own community is appreciated,as long as it is ethical and not inhuman. The very few number of so called ULFA activists will continue to carry on such activities in the coming decades aswell .....and no one can stop them,TILL people within the Assamese community take the initiative to put an end to it.

Like the main article, the opinion is ill one and less informative. The act done by ulfa is inhuman and reall terror act. We need to find out way to combat these bad elements. This this group has no agenda other than creating terror. They dont even bless the Assamese people, they do crime against its own people.
I hope we must get aware of the real fact rather than wondering in some false unrealistic information like the article.

Its INHUMAN
by on Jan 09, 2007 07:01 PM  Permalink

ULFA should be removed form India. they should be banned and severly punished by law. its really horrible to feel that as a indians they are killing indians. they are more cruel in mind than other terrorists because they have their birth in india.i wish our army the best to remove the word ulfa from indian history in this 2007.

by on Jan 09, 2007 06:50 PM  Permalink

its amazing. i noticed this fact that they targetted 'immigrants' from Bihar but not from Bangladesh and was wondering what it would take for our 'secular' media to discover it. to suppress hindu aspirations we become secular. and to kill hindus our neighbors see us a hindu nation. cheers to secularism. 3 big cheers. lets protest against the killing of Saddam Hussein! some hindus killed in assam. commn! tell us something interesting. hindus r born to be killed. if u dont kill them in hindusan where will u? they already been killed in pakistan!
