I am surprised by this idea Although i welcome NRI doctors in india, I am unhappy . At the same time why could not the indian government and NRI doctors lobby to enable indian medical degrees get recognized abroad without any licensing exams like USMLE. Are our degrees and knowledge inferior. In spite of having the best clinical knowledge we indians are supposed to go through 3 exams to be at par with our western counterparts.
i am a US citizen and completed my medical studies in US throughout and i am planning to return back to india with my would be. I am so glad to read this news as i was always worried about a job back home. I do know that i could get a 5 years working permit and could work for some private hospital or could have my own practice, but as much as i can understand form this news, i can now have a government hospital job as well.... please someone clarify me on this, if i am wrong.....
The Indian govt should social security agreement with the US. The US govt takes around 10 % of the salary as social security tax on the pretext Indian govt does not have social security. The US govt will give social security only if the person works in the US for a min period of 10 years. But since most of the working professionals are on H1B visa (max of 6 years), the US govt collects free money (to the tune of more than 1 billion dollars every year). The US govt does have social security agreements with all the white allies. Its high time the Indian govt looks into this issue with the US govt especially when India has the power to flex its muscles.
