What I feel is that the whole incident is a cookedup story. May be the army officers were taken into the custody by the police by overenthusiasom. Even after taking custody of the officers, the police should have acted according to laid down procedure in such events. In this case they did not inform the army after taking the army officers in to their custody. They have failed miserably. Let the court of inquiry ordered by the army will bring out the truth. Media too have shown their one sided report and blown the report out of proportion. Discretion should have been used while reporting such matters.There are more things of national importance for reporting but our media reporters chose to resort to yellow journalism. What a pity.
We keep talking about India being a great democracy etc., such acts are a blatant blow to our democratic establishment. No person irrespective of the position held should be above law. The guilty should be brought to book at the earliest.
do not treat soldiers in this manner. we know about police and there is a protocol for arresting defence officers. did the police follow this?.no wonder the army took the law in hand, because when ever the law and order fails they look at army for doing the dirty job.now let them feel the heat. sabastin, los angeles
Two Army officers "allegedly" misbehaved ladies and bloody honest Bengal Police put them behind the bars like criminals. I just could not digest it. Why no action has been taken against those police officers first who misbehaved with these two commissioned army officers by the President for putting them behind the bars along with hard core criminals without passing any information to the Army Hq. Every one knows that whole Siliguri border connecting Nepal is full of smugglers and this smuggling is going on openly with the full assistance right from the rank of Senior officers (DGP, SPs or ACPs) to constables. If these two officers were in a drunken state (which is hard to believe) in a 5 star hotel and if they had misbehaved with the ladies (unbelievable)why police did not try to resolve the situation. To give full respect and show courtsey towards women is the first lesson in the Army training. Being an ex-CRPF officer and from my previous job experience, I know very well that this Bengal Police always tries to let down Army or paramilitary officers. I think this matter should be properly scrutinized and who so ever "Police Officer" is guilty should be given strict punishment. Jay
This is total bullsh#@T! These drunken jawans, not only committed a criminal offense, but returned with ome of their army pals, armed with auto weapons, beat up the police and and totally wrecked a police station, and then the army brass says they wil not hand them over to the civilain police? What makes them so special? When can criminals, military or otherwise, flout the law with total impunity? Maybe the next thing on their list would be a military coup!
If true, this is a totally unacceptable behaviour from army people. Since in any issue two sides are involved it becomes imperative to anlyze the issue objectively;
if the police arrested them inspite of knowing they were army personnel then they did a poor job;
but, regardless of what police did, army men vandalizing a police station and freeing their friends is a criminal affair and it must not go unpunished.
The whole law that gives immunity for military personnel itself should be questioned.
This is like giving incentive for bad behaviour. It is like saying be in the military and you wont be prosecuted by local police for your incursions.
I am sure there may be different protocols enacted for these type of things; but, in a country like India when we read about things like these it makes me wonder which direction we are going as a country!.
These thugs are supposed to be protecting India. They not only cannot protect India they can't even behave themselves. On top of it they are protecting the ones from whome India needs protection (so called officers and their thugs) who have no respect for Indian values (drinking and mis-behaving with women, destroying our public facilities and beating public servants).
