Apply the Shariah Law!
by Mohd Haris on Feb 22, 2007 03:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

These times make me feel how imperative Shariah Law is for India. If you look at the Middle Eastern countries, these incidents are so unbelievably rare, simply because the Islamic laws are in place.

A rapist deserves capital punishment, and Islamically, stoned to death.

Spare us from our preaching Mr haris. The incidents are rare in Middle East countries only becoz they are not highlighted, not for the damn Shariah law you are talking about. Regarding your Islamic Law, the less said the better. Requesting the heavens to help out people like you.

Looks like my friend is not really aware of the middle eastern countries for their own nationals. Rapes are regular in those so called countries and no one (local) has ever recd. any appropriate punishment. So, we just need our law of the land which needs to be implemented impartially and who ever is the wrong doer.

On what grounds do you base your statements? I have lived in Saudi Arabia for 11 years and in the United Arab Emirates for 8 years of my life. Just like you've learnt India's history, economics and political structure and how laws affect the people, etc. I have studies it all for them. And I know how is affects in practical sense. I know what "kinds" of crime happens in India, and how frequently. And I know the Middle Eastern scenario. No doubt no country enjoys a zero crime rate. But you can't even compare it with India. The reason is quite simple, because ca[ital punishment makes them think again. Just like Indians still feel murder is the biggest crime. Although Rape should be treated at par with murder. That's the Shariah Law.

One should always be mindful of his/her language while posting comments on a site open to public viewing. What Mohd. Haris has said above is one of the opinions, which are gaining more strength and ground as incidents of rape and murder keep incraesing many fold every year, regardless of official statistics.
You could have better suggested any other remedies, rather than slamming 'idiotic islamic supporters'. Your type of language generates bad taste.

Agreed, that the rapist has been a barbaric in committing the act. But by stoning that person to death, what does say of the judiciary? Lets get away from the dark ages. Lets not stoop down to the same level as the rapist!

Though I dont believe in capital punishment, lets keep that debate for another time. In this specific cases the various departments must get their act together and provide quick justice to the victim and if the person is found guilty and deserves capital punishment it must oly be done in a way that respects another human life albeit a rapist.

Stoned to death...best punishment...where are you from? You seem to be just as bad as the rapist! It may happen in a society that lives in dark ages but not in a modern society.

India is a modern country and does not not need any such barbaric punishments. Seems like you have safely stashed up all the teachings like "Condenm the sin, but not the sinner".

Read my above reply, and lemme add this: Khaleej Times (newspaper) is one of the most sought after newspaper, most respected and most neutral newspapers in the Middle East. (not one country, I said Middle East). Go check the media power of the Middle East on Wikipedia.

Its amazing how people comment without backing up their statements.

Judicial system needs to be made accountable and sensitive
by Pradyumn Sharma on Feb 22, 2007 03:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I salute this girl for the courage shown by her. I understand her plight and I think it should make the head of all of us Indians hang in shame, not only for the fact that rapes aer so common in India, or that the influential people try to subvert the process of criminal investigation and justice, but also the fact that it takes a letter to the President of India to ensure justice.

I hope the President of India looks into the matter, and I hope his intervention and the media-awareness created by this letter ensure quick justice.

But what about the thousands of other girls who may have been raped many years ago, and the court cases may be just going on?

I feel that the judicial system needs some quick revamps. Regarding rape cases, I feel:

- a rape case must be mandatorily decided within six months,
- hearings should be on a daily basis and in camera,
- the defense lawyers must be sternly warned by the judges in case they try to ask humiliating questions to the victim or malign the character of the victim. A defense lawyer trespassing such limits should be barred from participating in any rape cases in future.

According to me, rape is the worst crime on humanity. It is worse than murder. A murder victim is dead once for all, a rape victim, at least in Indian society, has to die a thousand deaths, day in and day out.

A rape convict must be mandatorily given a death sentence. In fact, they should be publicly lynched. Some human rights activists may say that lynching is inhuman. Is rape any less inhuman?
