who cares by vidyanandan ms on Feb 21, 2007 03:13 AM | Hide replies
Who cares this kind of tragedy? it will happen again and again in this biggest democrsy in the world..with the so called government with ministers looking to amass as much as wealth for the next four or five generations.. the politicians fighting out to snap up the biggest bone available.. or the concrned beaurocrats who sleep on the bundles of files in their office..or the brainless common man who vote them to power to get trampled by the same people..or the media who go to any extent to 'break the news' on colour of the underwear a film actress is wearing...whom to blame? anyway some inncoent blemishless souls departed causing irreparable loss for their kith and kin..my heartfelt condolnce to them. may god give them the strength to endure this tragedy.
This event is yet another blackmark in developing India.
One friend below pointed out why Gov. didn't have a mandatory lifesaver in boat? why is that our actions are always reactionary????
When 80 innocent school kids were burnt in fire in Kumbakonam school in TN, only then we started looking into something called "Fire-codes" - before then, even big companies didn't have such plan. Immediately, there was a big farce of implementing fire policies in all schools & Gov building but years went past, everything sleeping now. Seriously, is that how we gonna be? We lose so many lives and learn one deadly lesson only to forget that in few years??? How many of us are following proper rules in our day-to-day lives, first of all? How can we blame Gov alone, after all, we are the Government! [at least, suppose to be!]
We celebrate the new russian Nuclear installations without understanding the humangous tragedy lurking in the dark. While we are so susceptible to terror attacks, can we even imagine what devastation it can cause? Are we gonna learn only after such an incident occurs, good forbid!
Please, we need to be proactive and pro-poor, Because they are the ones who often in receiving end.

Whether it was private or government there should have been strict rules regarding maintenance of the boat and its running. Not just that, there should be provisions in place, enforced by the government, to make sure that rules are strictly adhered to. Such callous behaviour on the part of individuals who trivialise human lives is only because they are sure they can get away with it. If it is the case that the boat owner and his insurance company will have to heavily compensate the families who lost their lives and if we have proper laws to bring him to justice, he would never have done this. It is not upto the people entering the boat to make sure how many are to enter and set the limits. The staff on the boat should not have allowed them at all. If the staff did it the owner is also vicariously responsible. Think of the innocent children who were lured into the boat and drowned. And ironically no member of the crew was involved. As it happens in other tragedies involving children. This is mass murder. We have failed our children..... Law should be enforced. We are not mature enough to practice law by our own will power. It has to be enforced with an iron hand. No use crying hoarse after tragedy strikes......... I am too ashamed even to express condolences to the bereaved families..... Children, dont trust us anymore.....our words are empty and our promises to you are hollow. Tomorrow we may entice another crowd of your friends to the same boat and leave their fate to God. Oh if only there was a God to help you!
These incidents should be prevented. There should be strict rules for small children while taking care. Mandatory rules to wear life jackets should be made. I think only in India we dont have value for life.
Obviously it feel very sad. the boat people should have taken very much care abut the children. it is a big loss to our country Sreejith.S.Unnithan, Edappavoor,
Nothing to do now. Now media will start discussing on this for sme dyas. Government will come up woth offers. But what we can do is Just Pray for those litle souls. lets hope that those parents will get the courage to tackle the situsn.
Lot of people dies in various part of the world every day due to many reasons. But innocent children who never thought of such untimely death, we can not say its fate. If we think little deep, what would have been the mental condition of those children. I pray to the almighty for their soul to rest in peace, joins with the parents who lost their loved ones, let god give them strength to overcome this tragedy.
The response from governments to these issues must be a yardstick for good politics. The ministers seem to be busy fighting there own criminal cases or collecting easy votes from one caste on expense of the others.
