Its always good to know our history,i think its a shame if some one tries to find the loop holes and make it a religious issue...hope everyone tries to take it in a possitive way.
Francois Gautier's knowledge of india does not surprise me coz he's an outsider and no matter how long u live in a different country, u cannot know its soul....and its soul is Harmony...its soul is brotherhood.....its soul is living together...and iam not a psuedo secularist or a tree hugging liberal....but at the same time one cannot see in the rear view mirror and expect to move forward....yes it does helo us to look into the sideview mirrors though. I am seeing a pattern of Anti-muslim articles here in rediff for the past 6-7 yrs since i started seeing this site and i never miss this site....same with fox news in US....these two media outlets have been my regulars....but till now they have failed to convince me but still i visit them just for the feeling that sometimes it feels happy to love to hate these people....but hey...lets forget the history and move forward........shall we ?

Anything that is truth of the history antagonises people of some belief. Why do you want to take the discussion as being anit-xxx. Dont run away from truth and encourage wrong history. All that this article is saying is that Aurangzeb was most intolerent among all the moghul rulers. That was single most reason why mullahs supported him to the throne after more tolerent ruler like Akbar. They infact feared existence of muslim.

Good to thr is some truth coming out.Monstrous aurangzeb still triumphs in the names of street n cities like aurangabad whr he died. not most people know about jazhiya tax. its a tax imposed on hindus which includes 12 points. some of it i specify here other than just denying hindus horses n all. >no demolished temples will be re-constructed. >thr will be no weeping when a family member dies in hindu homes. >hindus are not entrailed higher posts ever. >mosques can be contructed anywhere destroying anything in the way. many more such atrocities were done during the days of aurangzeb like be-heading of guru teg bahadur in chandini chowk and of sambhaji(shivaji's son) who was given title dharmaveer after his refusal to accept islam.his eyes were gouged out, skin peeled off, tied on camel, nails taken off, slited the tongue till he was chanting 'om',this was something which gave marathas the heart to fight that triggred the end of mughal empire. there is no denying this fact.
If we look at the true history, without the communist angle, all the Moghul rules may turn out to be barbarians. It is a shame that today's children are forced to study more of Moghuls in history than Gandhi.
I don't understand the need for such articles at this point of time. Its unfortunate that rediff.com comes up with such sensationalism to attract more viewership. Ultimately what it leas to is a lot of hatred being generated through the forums.

These kind of articles should come again and again. Only then will we be alert to any more threats to our freedom! We have to learn from history. History repeats itself!
Why do you want to deny it? Arent you seeing the same thing happening again? All this "muslims first" funda by a Sikh PM with a Catholic super PM?

lets file a pettition against REDIFF for the following:
1) they are coming up with articles that are causing hatred, separating people based on religion, caste, region, state, culture and language etc etc and the list goes on..
Its really disgrace ful to see such a popular webiste behaving in such ir-responsible manner.

DEar Karan Thakur Saab, I agree with you. I will be happier if you file a pettition against the makers of 'Parzania'and Censor Board wherein a character describes Hindu Organisations as a bunch of mother f*****s!
File another petition questioning the validity of Haj subsidies being provided by our secular government to Muslim pilgrims

I think if people r mature enough, they will not fight for wat has happened in the past...and i think its a shame if we don't want to know our history predicting something may happen.

your views & the tone of language makes for quite disgusting reading...learn to face reality even if its a matter of the past so that society is aware of such demons and the fact is that a section of even today's global Moslem views are extremly rabid & more fundamental than when compared to extreme views of other religions...destruction & aggression tends to be the primary message of a section
We all have been students of history in our school days and Mughal History has always been a primary section of Indian history - anyone who studied history in school or specialized later am sure would have been revolted when he read about the Mughal periods along with Maratha & Rajasthan bravery....in a way India a land of tolerance has always been tormented by outsiders and we wish to forget our past so that we can talk & behave with psuedo-secularism now !!
Why have the followers of Sufism which taught brotherhood & tolerance dwindled....they were themsleves persecuted by the stronger zealots of their community....so how can you, if you'll are true Indians talk in such a perverted form and be seen to support one community at the expense of causing hurt to other communities...minority or majority is not the point..views like yours aggravate tension & causing other communities to react
so learn to appreciate facts of the past & learn from those not to support any form of extremism & see that such similar demons cannot raise their head ever
& finally we thank today's media and the Internet which throws subjects open for discussion & which allows us to find information & knowledge which hopefully helps us in conducting society & our lives more tolerantly

If you sue rediff, what will you do with the present govt at the centre and several like-party ruled states? Then you will have to file a petition naming all these as respondents!!

I agree that we need to move forward & not "hum panch-hamara pacchis" or "muslim boys marrying hindu girls". (actually whats stopping hindu boys marrying muslim girls - they are quite beautiful & in gujarat - muslim girls are more qualified than muslim boys according to a report at TOI ahmedabad). Progress I understand is economic, political & social progress & Aurangzeb's (mis)deeds may fit in it as a reminder of "WHAT OUGHT NOT BE DONE" to hinder progress. Lets accept Gautier's findings from a social-scientific point of view and if someone can refute it by evidence --- WELL THEN ONLY INDIANS STAND TO GAIN :))

DDear Shadab bhai - I agree that nothing should disturb the peace between Hindus and Muslims as we are both Indians and human beings. But at the same time we should face the past/history with maturity - whether it is Aurangzeb, Godhra or the Post Godhra riots (read Parzaania)- and learn not to repeat the ghastly incidents in future. That is what is called a civilized public.
No words are sufficient to describe Aurangazeb's atrocities on Hindus. But atleast he is dead and buried centuries back.
The worse part is so called seculars and leftists who twist and tamper the hostorical truths to suit their dirty politics. This is the foremost danger!!
Aurengzeb was a cruel ruler who killed several innocent people who objected to his forceful conversions to islam.
I simply do not understand why we have roads like "Aurangzeb Road", Delhi named after him. There were several other prominent figures like Subhash Chandra Bose, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, who were an intricate part of our Freedom Struggle

Belgaum city in Karnataka has a road named after Jinnah, the so called father of Pakistan.
Indian history somehow manages to show bad guys as good human beings. Then may be he is ravan or aurangzeb. The history is always showing the good points of the bad guy and the bad deeds of such guys are professional erased out. The result, we have name of the roads or places in their name for all the torture and misdeeds they have done to our generations. If we trying to put forward the same misdeeds in today%u2019s time, surprisingly you will still find their loyal followers putting all their forces to shut up people like you. I am really surprised that there can be people like you who can think of such a wonderful idea to expose these villains out of the history books. To add to it, I would say that you should held such exhibition in Mumbai too. Although I am no one in Mumbai city, but I will try to help you out if possible, in doing so I would feel like I have in someway helped our tortured generation. Is there any one in Mumbai thinking the same?
