Please don't quote the Holy Qu'ran in defense of Aurangzeb. It is a fact the Prophet Mohammed PBUH, destroyed all the temples in Mecca except for the Ka'aba. He did so without killing anyone, but still the destruction is recorded. Many kings and invaders were claiming to follow his examples and pursued it with a religious zeal. For them, giving God a form was the most disgusting thing. In India, especially with figures of God representing in many forms, destruction of temples was rampant, and so was conversion by force. Now, because of inherent repugnant practices like untouchability, many voluntarily took up Islam, there are innumerable recorded examples where force was use. Now, Islam is a great religion and has a great history, especially in countries like Spain under the Moors, and India under Akbar, but to say there are no flaws either in the religion or even the rulers (especially Aurangzeb) is a fallacy and would force independent thinkers like myself getting pushed towards the right. Besides, Mr. Gautier is publishing the edicts signed by Aurangzeb himself, so there would be no argument on this. The country where Aurangzeb find himself at home would be any area ruled by the Taliban. he had even fired upon the Buddhist statues at Bamiyan but couldn't destroy them. He banished artists and the brilliant Kangra Art movement followed, which is recorded history. He banned artisans and yet tried to build a joke called the Bibi ka Maqbara in Aurangabad. He did expand the Mughal empire to its zenith, and that very expansion sowed the seeds of its destruction. He was the biggest enemy of the Mughals and what they believed in. Again, please don't quote the Holy Qu'ran for putting forth your arguments. I have read the Qu'ran and I have the highest respect for the holy text...BUT there are many contradictory lines which can be interpreted in numerous ways. That would lead to an unnecessary and long discussion.

one question still requires answer--- if aurangzeb did not demolished temples, who did that? why hindus themselves demolished them and erected mosques there. sounds little crazy.

why was sambhaji..son of shivaji the great tortured..had his eyes poked out with hot iron rods???? why were the sikh gurus tortured and killed????? you talk about persian kings...they were very unlike the mughals..they dint torture their enemies like this..i think thats wht cost them their land...thats why they fled persia..because of islamic torture and came to india..where they were given shelter by hindu kings and where they live to this day....
Everybody knows that Aurangzeb was indeed a religious emporer of India. he was the most honest, people caring king india has ever seen. Everybody including Hindus, Muslim, Sikhs were lived very peaceful in his tenure. Today's 85% of Hindus along with christians, sikhs are witnessing that they were not forced of any conversion. It is shame that people like Francois are manipulating the history and trying to divde the communities. Aurangzeb had to punish his alcoholic father shahejahan who was spending lavishly from the people money and lived a very simple life from his own earning. It is pitty that without reading or knowing anything people started critizing him. I will ask all the people who hates him to look into other sources & facts before coming to any conclusion. We can't hate such a gentleman who gave special protection to the people specially hindus. Please please read from the other sources and then you make your own decision.

Definetly not and it is a crime, be it any books.
One thing interesting if you guys look into it, it starts with Auranzeg, who is a bad guy any time, but they he blends his article to attack the dual law. Just think about it my friends, if the author was serious on bringing the cruelties of Aurangzeb time, why he started in other direction. Just do not get played away with the above article.

Thanks. I believe Auranzabad should be looked as a bad indivisual rather then a muslim? Problem comes when some people looks at him first as a muslim then a indivisual.
