Its interesting to see so many liberal Hindus coming out on this message board and trashing/accusing Francios of spoiling Hindu-Muslim relationship in India. While muslims as usual call Francios writing as anti-Muslim and Muslim hater. What Francios has documented is not pipe-dream, its coming from actual archives.
The foremost thing on liberal Hindus is the well being of India the nation, while for muslims its the Islam. The beauty of hinduism is that it produces so many liberals who are ready go defend muslim rights as far away as Palestine. On the contrary I don't hear any liberal muslim voice defending the plight of Kashmiri Hindus nor 25% Hindus of Pakistan now reduced to 1% nor 30% Hindus of Bangladesh now reduced to 8%. Sadly, there are more liberal and stupid Hindus than liberal and smart Hindus today. Thats why Indian Muslims instead of being indian first want to be Muslim first imposing Sharia law in J&K and ultimately to rest of India.
I see few of these liberal and stupid Hindus divert the topic to castism in Hinduism. But Hindus don't deny this and the beauty is we are working to fix it. What about the inherent problem in Islam. Nobody wants to bell the cat.
You also notice how muslims quote that the religion is for peace and give tonnes of quotations. But for what? Actions speak louder. Why are so many Hindu/BJP leaders killed on a daily basis all over the country?
Based on fact from Kashmir, Pakistan and Bangladesh we know present form of Islam will not tolerate multiculturism. Hence we need to make Indian Muslims follow Sufi style if at all they want to remain Indian, otherwise we are headed for another partition
history of humankind if taken in right perpective can teach a lot to humans, here in this article we dont need to identify one ruler in terms of religions, please for heaven sake religion has nothing to do with the rules/misrules,cruelty,barbarity of emperors or kings.
i am a shia muslim by faith and even my forefathers and pirs suffered a lot during tyrannical aurangzeb reigns, and we literally curse him in our religious dicourse and we find it funny that sometimes we are identified as sons of aurangzebs by some misguided fundamentalists.
here we have to view the rules of emperors, rajahs, maharajahs and nawabs as a act of self preservation with a facade of religious mask to hide or justify their misdeeds forced down on thier submissive subjects.
history has many examples of this .so please my indian brothers and sisters stop identifying ourselves with the emperors or kings
who were nothing but self preserving morons bent on just extending their rule and expanding their boundries with whatever means possible.
aurangzeb was just another figure in history like alexander, chengis khan, hitler, akbar, napolean, shivaji, etc.who have all ruled justly or unjustly but left a legacy for us to fight over!

Why on earth do u want to link 500 old Aurangzeb story to something which happened today????? For God's sake stop linking personalities to religion...
Hatred is much talked and specially about muslims all around the globe.Once i donated blood to a hindu unknowingly but when he came to know that i am a muslim he said few muslims are even good today. I mean to say muslim are labelled as cruel. When we met kashmiri muslim we say terrorist and when we met hindu kashmiri then we say immigrants, the same situation was with sikh few years back. Try to find out good in other religions and try to discuss less on religion.Provide right information to the others and enjoy your life.
The future is always built based on the lessons learnt from history. Not only just Aurangazeb, every Muslim ruler of India, in particular the Sultan rulers completely destroyed the Indian civilization and its culture. The Muslims used to come to India because they had no food in their own countries. Foriegners who had attacked India before these Muslims, like the Greeks, the Huns had all embraced Indian culture emanating from Hinduism and Buddhism. King Kanishka is one of the greatest examples. For the Muslims, it was a no, no. They had only one job, to kill the Hindus, destroy their temples, convert them forcibly and then use them for administration since the Muslim invaders had no knowledge of a civil governance. The entire period of Muslim "rule" in India is most appropriately known as the "dark chapter of Indian history".The Muslims from Arabia also destroyed other civilizations like the Persian, Egyptian and many more.
There is no point in denying our history or to cover up a beast like Aurangazeb by talking about his gifts to some rural temples. Those were done at the behest of the Hindu members of his court and army.
I don't know why rediff is doing this by digging old history whether its real or not.Its time we live like Indians, Religion must be practiced at home and prayer places. Please don't divide us.Britishers have gone so the policy "Divide and Rule" has also to be gone.Don't give our fundamentalist leaders issues so that they can use for further bloodshed.Japan has accepted USA even after Hiroshima Nagasaki bombing. Germany is accepted by European and other countries. Because they know they have to progress and move ahead

You need to get out of ostrich mode and work your brain a bit more. Basically you are preaching to the choir. But what about the real problem when you get out of the ivory tower. Every Friday is a ticking bomb. Every topic related to Islam is explosive. When will sensible discussion happen without resorting to terrorism. Do you get it and still a duh?

By Azam M. Khan "Indian by birth, Muslim by the grace of Allah, Patriot by choice" Hello, everybody. May Allah grant you peace and shower His blessings and bounties on everyone. I agree with Mr. Bhattacharjee that Muslims have not regularly raised their voice against all the atrocities being committed by members of their own community. First of all, I want to emphasize that there is no classification like a 'liberal Muslim' or a 'fundamentalist or hard-line Muslim' that exists in Islam. As far as the tenets of the religion are concerned, one either accepts the faith and follows it or he rejects it. So, one is either a Muslim or one is not. Period. However, people over the ages have had their own interpretation of the religion and have used it for their own ends. Unfortunately, the general followers of all religions are mostly unaware of the tenets of the religion. Therefore, they depend upon the so-called teachings of the mullahs and the pundits and the clergy and those 'revered leaders' generally twist the context to suit their own designs! Coming back to Islam, the only correct way to observe the religion is the way shown by the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) and the Rightfully Guided caliphs followed that way to the best of their abilities, always referring to the prophets teachings and the Quran. The Muslims were ruthlessly persecuted in the beginnning, but won over the entire Arabian peninsula within a short time. If there was ever any justification for 'terrorist type' tactics or guerilla tactics, the followers of the Prophet should have indulged in them, because they were subjected to atrocities not just by the opposing armies, but by the general population of the region. However, this was not done. Even when the region was conquered, there was no wholesale slaughter or revenge. Except for the cleansing of the Ka'aba (which was originally built by the Prophet Abraham and dedicated to Allah, but later on was used by polytheists to house over 300 deities), there was no desecration and destruction of the Jews' and Chiristians' places of worship or forced conversions authorised by the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh). Therefore, my sincere advice to Muslims all over the world is to read and understand the Quran themselves and to base all their actions and deeds on the way of the Prophet. A way which is the model of peace and restraint and understanding and patience, not of revenge and intolerance. And to the non-Muslims, specially of my country, India, I appeal to them not to be swayed by the intolerance being shown by members of their own community only for their own nefarious gains. Please do not brand all of us as terrorists or anti-nationals. For every Muslim who has chosen to tread the path of the terrorist or fundamentalist, there are tens of thousands who do not subscribe to that view and are fiercely patriotic. Let us also not get into the argument of right or wrong religion, for, ultimately, we will all have to answer for our own deeds one way or another. And Allah says in the Quran that He is the creator of evreyone and everything and He, in His wisdom, has made the differences in people and it is only He who has the authority to judge. And, in any case, life is too short and complicated for all of us to waste it and abuse time by geting into these matters. let us all strive hard to better our own lot and to take our country forward. Incidentally, my non-Muslim and Muslim friends alike, "Jehad" means 'struggle' and not 'holy war'. The struggle has to be against our own base desires and against oppression of any kind; to uphold the Truth and to lead our lives according to the dictates of Allah as revealed in the Quran and exemplified by the life and teachings of the Prophet (pbuh). For the Muslims, it is essential that they understand Islam themselves through the Quran and Hadiths ( teachings of the Prohet [pbuh]) and not to blindly follow the rantings of self-centred and often mis-guided 'mullahs' and perveyors of hate and bigotry and hypocrisy in the name of Islam. may Allah give all of humanity the guidance to look for the truth and the strength to follow it.
