Aurangzeb
by Mukunda Rao on Feb 17, 2007 08:22 PM  Permalink

Bravo,Bravo Mr.Gautier,

You have done a signal service and have shown the courage that is so sadly lacking in our so called cowardly securalists. As Santayana said, those who ignore history are bound to expereience it again. Beit Holocaust in Europe or in India.

The truth about Aurangzeb
by Sunil Shetty on Feb 17, 2007 08:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well its good to learn about Aurangazeb in such detail. Though I wouldnt know if all thats said here is true. I guess rediff would alteast ensure that it is before allowing such material to be put up at their website. Having said that its important to know ones history. But its more important to know the complete history rather than just a few people like Aurangzeb. There have been moslems who were great and also those who were a shame to their tribe. I think todays youth is intelligent enough to know that and take things with a pinch of salt.

there is no point in talking about past. it is aurangzeb who first banned sati and it is not raja ram mohan roy as it is perceived. besides why look at faults of others when we have our own when we oppressed our own.

Aurangzeb was an Asura incarnate
by on Feb 17, 2007 08:11 PM  Permalink

He was certainly a monster....thanks for taking the initiative to write about his atrocities. He destroyed so many ancient temples! Unlike Jews, the Indian Government tries to hide all atrocities that have been perbetrated against Hindus.

It was really period of darkness that he was military ruler of so much of India....looks like at least the most Southern parts of India escaped his evil clutches.

Dear Pankaj, again the same biased attitude.Nowhere does the Glorious quran say kill non muslims. On the contrary, it orders a muslim to give protection to them when they ask for it, even if you are in a battlefield. No where is it written that by marrying a hindu girl one is going to enter into Jannah. Please stop reading books by half knowledge authors like Arun Shourie. As I already suggested, to say about a religion, first read and understand its scriptures yourself.
God bless you

Hi maha,

I would like to explain.. u the meaning of KAFIR.. kafir is an arabic word which mean non believer of ISLAM or simply non-muslim.
So kafir for us is any person who is not muslim.
I don't think there is any problem with that word.. as long as it is said to NON-MUSLIM.

i think u might have understood me. If anyone want not to get called as KAFIR .. the only answer is to get embrace ISLAM.

Dear Maha shraaddh,
My point of discussion is that to know a religion read its scriptures, not its people.
What about the Pandit families that are still living in Srinagar and villages around. Why do you forget that last rites of hundreds of Pandit were performed by kashmiri muslims. The allegation that war cries came from every mosque is baseless

Is centuries of voilence (citing verses Quran ) on other people is not enough proof. Inhumane treatment of women (citing Quran ) is not proof enough. Don't waste your energy defending ,see the facts.

good point maha....i read about this too and a kashmiri neighbour once told me that there are fighters from as far as sudan in kashmir.....it is sad to see so many Hindus converted....Kashmiris....entire Bangladesh got converted during the Mughal rule......and Aurangzeb is considered a Badshah.....we Hindus have paid an enormous price for being non-violent.......we needed and still need more Shivajis......more Chuhans......guardians of our religion......I agree the quran doesnt say kill muslims.....but it does call them kafir and mentioned jihad.....

Aurangzeb - A man of his times
by anita r on Feb 17, 2007 08:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Aurangzeb is more often that not used by parties like the VHP and Shiv Sena to convince Indians that he epitomises the 'evil' Muslim who killed, dispossessed and converted Hindus en masse.

While it is true that Aurangzeb was responsible for atrocities one needs to see him in the context of the time he belonged to. Aurangzeb was an absolute Monarch and like numerous Kings and Emperors, of his time and before his time, Aurangzeb committed and sanctioned acts as he pleased.

His brother Dara Shikoh, was put to death by Aurangzeb, not because Dara was tolerant of other religions, but because Dara had been their father Jahangir's favorite son and was Aurangzeb's rival in the battle of succession to the throne. Aurangzeb was not the first or last to take the throne after killing members of his own family. Aurangzeb's father Jahangir had infact kept his own ailing father, Shah Jahan in captivity and taken the throne.

What also needs to be noted that while under Aurangzeb conversions were encouraged and rewarded, forced conversions were definately not as Gautier staes "at 90 per cent". If 90% had been converted India would have been a Muslim majority country.

Comparing Aurangzeb to Hitler is far fetched because they existed more than 200 years apart and lived in very different worlds. Hitler came to power because he was elected by the Germans, Indians under Aurangzeb had no choice but to accept him as their Monarch.

History is littered by Kings who have done more harm than good, Aurangzeb happens to be just one among them and to single him out as the worst is questionable.

Aurangzeb's father was Shah Jahan and not Jahangir who was infact Shah Jahan's father.

anita, what are you? human rights fundoo? talking so nicely about Aurangzeb. Why don't you tell that to the kids belonging to your religion(if you are a Hindu) who were murdered by him in hundreds of thousands. You historical knowledge is deficient to say the least. Some Hindus are increasingly talking like Muslim Mullahs and Imams.
