Cauvery Management Board mooted
by Manny on Feb 07, 2007 11:07 AM  Permalink

New Delhi: The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal has recommended that the Centre constitute a Cauvery Management Board (CMB) to implement the directions in its final award.

The Tribunal, in its 1,000-plus page order passed on Monday, said it was drawing upon its implied power to make such a recommendation, and noted that "whatever machinery is set up should be adequately empowered to implement the Tribunal's decision, as otherwise we are afraid our decision would only be on a piece of paper."

Tamil Nadu had demanded the creation of an independent machinery for the effective implementation of the final award, with powers to take over reservoirs and monitor water release. The Tribunal noted that the mechanism, on the lines of the Bhakra-Beas Management Board, should be independent in character in order to achieve the objective of distribution of the waters as per the equitable shares determined by it. The CMB should comprise a chairman and two members; two representatives of the Central Government and one representative each from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, besides a secretary. It should be "entrusted with the function of supervision of operation of reservoirs and with regulation of water releases therefrom with the assistance of CWRC."

Points to answer by those who gave judgement and the great central government
by Patil Bs on Feb 07, 2007 10:58 AM  Permalink

1. They distributed water is like this, average 1 lack acre of land will get 17 tmcft of water for tamilnadu and 14.5 tmcft of water to karnataka. They said they are growing more paddy and two crops and karnataka is not that much. It's looks like they gave injustice because How can one should say that you are poor and be like that don't comeup in life with improvement

2. Karnataka, maharastra and andra pradesh have shared and gave some tmcft of water to chennai drinking water though tamilnadu have no krisna river project but the verdict says bangalore drinking water you should share within karnataka water share.

The source for cauvery river from cauvery river and sub rivers are added from karnataka land[off course the rivers are natural it's not only our property] the benefits should go equally at least if not more.

Tell me friends where is the justice? Why this hell central government is not responding though karnataka is burning or going to burn. Who is responsible for all these decisions against a big state and about 6 crore people? are we loosing hopes on democracy and indian union?

Tamilnadu is the looser -- that is the bitter truth hidden in this verdict
by baskaran k on Feb 07, 2007 10:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Karnataka needs to release only 192 TMC of water to tamilnadu

What the verdict says as 419 TMC of water is just the rights of tamilnadu.

But it will get only 192 TMC from Karnataka.

Out of which it should give 30 TMC to Kerela and 7 TMC to Pondicherry.

So finally what is left with Tamilnadu is only 155TMC

Just 155 TMC is the water given to tamilnadu.

I really pitty tamilnadu for not crying%u2026%u2026%u2026.. after loosing everying to Karnataka.

Very Correct Mr.Bhaskaran! Our people seem to get emotional and have started hurling abuses on the neighouring states without actually going through the facts of the case, and the media seems to fuel fire the emotions of every one in their respective states. Why don't the politians of the respective states address the facts in clear black and white terms dispassionately, and then leave the issue as to whether to react or not to the local farmers!

Yes, you are right.. Actually, TN is the loser when compare to the interim award.

But it is happening opposite. Karnataka is complaining but TN seems to be happy.

Probably, TN wants an earlier end to dispute :)

(or)

Are they any other factors due to which TN is reasonably comfortable with this verdict?

Good Article !!!!
by satish nayak on Feb 07, 2007 10:52 AM  Permalink

It is good article.

Government should think scientifically to resolve such issues. Snatching from one hand and giving it another hand is children's mentality. The government should stop such actions in respect of any issues, since it will never resolve the problem. On the other hand, it will create hatred among the people.

Cauvery issue article

Rediff

Please dont confuse peoples with wrong information. The judges has taken 17 years of continuous study and given the right things. In my oppinion, rediff has fueled to make voilence with totally wrong information.

I think the aim to publish this article to favour of karnataka and make confusion with baseless thought like ground water theory and all. I request the rediff top management to appologize to publish this kind of wrong information article to fuel the violence.

Please think about the other state peoples those living in karnataka. Totally wrong information published in this article.

Think about integrative india rather than narrow mind concept to write as a article. Write the article with unbaised manner. I believed so far that rediff is a good website to read the news like. But now i came to know i am a fool to think like that.

Mr Vijay, taking 17 years need not necessarily mean the decision is right! In fact as recent as few years ago, the tribunal requested (and obtained) the services of an assessment team to aid in its delibrations, this is after sitting quiet for 10 years!!!

Vijaya, rediff has only given facts. It is upto where you belong to will decide whether it is biased on unbiased. For ignorant/confused people, this article could be biased. The publishers have their career at stake. They would have worked hard to get their statistics right. (but that is not the case for you & me who sit & just comment).
