why do we have to brag so much abt sunita williams. she is definitely not associated in any way with india. i agree with "Real Indian" on this. If she were to be in India, she wouldn't be what she is today. so lets stop celebrating her!

Hi,
Who do you say that?
If you put your name as Real Indian means,
you cannot be Real Indian.
Do you know there one clause called, PIO.
Ask meaning to your Indian friend.

by Real Indian on Feb 06, 2007 02:57 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How is she and Indian, He never studied in India, she is married not married to an Indian born. I agree Kalpana Chawla is an Indian, She was born, raised and studied in India. Why should Indians go at great lenghts and associate with any one great and anyway possible?

Very sad you feel this way. I can tell you this, Sunita may have left her country, but she still lives with her face! This is a great achievement for a person with Indian origin, especially female. Let's celebrate her success, without being all negative. It's not an easy feat for anybody, let alone a female with such a name.

One small step for Sunita , one giant step for the Indian race
by Anurag Shrivastava on Feb 05, 2007 02:07 PM  Permalink

Indians are truly proud of you because you share at least 50% of your DNA structure has commonality with Indian race. Its also a great testimony to all that your father and great grandfather learnt when they were in India . Maybe your name Sunita has been decided on the basis of a great Indian numerologist enabling her to achieve what she has. Even this guy deserves the credit and by extension all of us on account sharing the same DNA of the great Indian race.

I completely agree with you. Foreign news media would have published this news item any way, this item is being given so much importance in India only because her ancesotors were Indian. I dont know if this news would have been published at all other wise. People who claim her to make India proud should also say similar things when a west Indian cricketer of Indian origin scores a century!!!! The point to be pondered here is so much of our talented is being used up for the upliftment of other countries. It is the time to think how to make people stay back and achieve back in India rather than becoming citizens of other countries and achieving there

Mr Datta you have a valid point. Few years back a professor in IITK along with two undergrad students proved a result on primality which was esoteric for humans for centuries. Such things are greater achivements and need more innovation than space walk which can be done by being in the right field and getting opportunities. I think that their contribution was never properly acknowledged by the Indian press. A space walk seems a flashy thing than proving a great mathematical result and our press tries to fully capitalize on it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AKS_primality_test

They received Godel prize but there was never enough hype for that. I dont think there was even enough coverage for that.
Frankly speaking Indians should feel proud of this more than about Sunita Williams space walk.
Unfortunately media is only bothered about covering things that look flashy rather than covering things that are more important or of higher value.

To all the cynics
by Nikhil P on Feb 05, 2007 10:06 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This story is quite opposite of the story about some actors' birthdays.

This story inspires many people, especially women. So no need to be cynic about this story.

i am guessing lot of people are proud of the achievement itself, but do we have to hype too much about Sunita having Indian roots?
