huh... this article is a very one sided take on India...it is only natural that we ape the West becos they are more succesful than the east... Indian culture has always absorbed different cultures... Indian culture = multi-culture... so we are adding one more culture to many we have already in India...thats the Western culture..

And your point is...
Yes, we KNOW we are adding another culture - western culture - to our culture. The issue is that we are are imbibing the worst of the western culture? There are more Indians that think that drinking wine at lunchtime, going to a pub, having indiscriminate sex, etc., is a sign of progress, than virtues of hard work, discipline, honesty, dedication to family, community service, etc. How pathetic is that!
Good job, you have taken the trouble to answer some of the idiots who posted on this site. Simple and plain - people who link up our "backwarness" to our culture and heritage have not understood the cause of the backwardness nor the glory of our culture. To those of you who think that Manusmrithi is the root of our caste evil, I would recommend that you - at the minimum - take the trouble of reading that book once before passing such uneducated remarks. Manusmrithi surely defined the caste structure, but nowhere does it say that the caste is hereditory. It is just an "occupation-based" classification of society which got hi-jacked by vested interests and is now being abused. Poor Manu is being blamed for all this mess.
Vas, you could spend your time better by not heeding the morons who post stupid postings and instead focus on something more useful, that will improve the lot of the people in our country.
(Yes, there are great values in the Western world: Freedom, democracy, equality (not always though), respect for the environment, less corruption. And India must, and has already borrowed from these qualities).
Well, the writer is from a different plant, I wonder whether he consider USA & UK in the Western world.
Mr. Gautier is just another confused Foreigner in India. One part of the article states that Indians are losing their Identity and Nobody is practising the Traditions and there is Westernisation everywhere. The other part states that there is intense communal tension between different groups. I don't have a clue of what he is talking about. To make it simple, if everybody is getting Modernized and forgeting their Culture (according to Gautier) then why there is still communal tension in India ????.
this article is li'le mimickin the views of distraught hindus, and to an extent the hindu fundamentalists. i'm a practicing hindu but i can say that stereotypin entire community is unfair. i've seen a few christian friends of mine projectin how west and christian practices are better than indian and hindu. they used to jocularly say that australia 'ld win against india as the former is christian country. but such ppl r a few and can't blame the entire community.
wonderful article...! thanks for the efforts taken to write this to mirror the current state of linguistic politics in India for the sake of vote banks
I am a Christian from Kerala and a proud Indian. I don't have time to reflect deeply on the bigotry thats strewed in this article, but would like to point to an article:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Mera_Bharat_Mahaan_71_say_theyre_proud_to_be_Indians/articleshow/1560569.c ms
Why are Christina's more proud than the rest? Could someone answer me?

There exits nothing in name of c...tiny. Christ was there and his words were fine for human kinds but the later who took the things in hand are of evilkind to conquer this world in cruel way and even the christ wont forgive them!
We have read race of hostility of marxist followers to distort hinduism, we read their history professors about how hinduism is bad, how it has to be looked by marxist cult theories. I think these secular anglicized people are worshipping death.
we had times of India criticizing Joshi for traditional Indian dress, now a bengali communist thug, attired with mullah beard is giving lectures of morality and peasants.. no comments on dress this was in economic times .... One wondered whether this seckularist has become soulless while searching soul of his imagination, a seckularist, maoist, upper caste bengali gentleman with a Mullah beard - whole lot of unnecessary unnecessary contradiction !
I have already started collecting what this man writes....... The only tragedy.... is that we Indians always needed somebody from outside to tell us these things... Nevertheless hats off to Gautier....
