Friends, Its a fashion, people crib about morality and talk about some good old times and stuff like that. One just has to remember our jawaans who died in kargil? why did they die? can we talk abt lots of young people supporting their families and serve the our society? Remember when bombay was flooded with water and we were literally without goverment, who were those people on the road helping others? Remember the case of jesica lal, how many ppl put pressure and made a difference. If there was no morality, Lage raho shouldn;t havebeen a smash hit. Today, we have got Mr. Manmohan singh and Mr. Kalam running our country. Do we consider them corrupt? It is very easy to be negative and condemn our country. we should ask just one question, what we have done for our country? Despite all the problems in india, we still maintain a good progress, Agreed there are problems, so which country do not have problems? It has been a difficult 60 years for us. Any developed state takes a while to align and realign its systems. Ours is a great country but we need to make it greatest. So lets work today so our childeren will reap the benefits. Arios,
RE:Morality disappeared from India? Really?

You, me and the children wouldn't be safe if not for the defense forces. I agree Manmohan Singh and Kalam are a few politicians we can count on our fingers who are not corrupt. What about the others? Please read his article carefully and judge. Yes we are losing our morality. The west is coming to India for spirituality and we are running towards the west. Take their positives and not negatives. There are millions of people who didn't get justice unlike Jessica Lal. Lage Raho is not the first movie on ethics. There were countless movies before that. The rich are getting richer. The poor poorer. As long as there are farmer deaths, child labor and old beggars, we do not live in a moral society.
the tragedy of our nation is that those who speak of many great things are not themselves following them,Those who follow them are not in the limelight. our heroes are film actors, cricket players, money making business men. What can we expect from such role models who always think about their personal progress rather than nation, society and people. Now a days each and every one wants to be a Soft ware engineer and get out of this counry. Then whom to blame. Old veterans like Mr.Thapan who had sacrificed his whole life for this nation without any expectation, definitely will feel bad for the present condition. only power mongers, money minded, opportunists have been in the forefront and in public life, what can we expect from them. We have lost sight of what is good and what is bad for our nation. Majority of us think of today,at the most our family, then our cast. Loyalties of individuals in this country is day by day becoming narrower to the state of religion, caste, region, language. The concept of Nation is fading away. All disintegrating factors are getting stronger which in turn weaken my country. We as a whole are responsible for this state of affair. We dont support a good person in public life because majority of us think by supporting such a man we cant get our work done, hence we support a loafer who after getting power uses us and throws people, society, nation everything into docks. We who are having still that slavish mentallity still hope and depend on others for our progress and will be satisfied by a small piece of bread which is thrown to us by such power mongers. Definitely we are not going in right direction as our leaders themselves dont know what is right direction then how they can lead us to right direction. It is a sorry state of affairs where in a society and nation merit is not honoured, people are discriminated, jeolousy is inbuilt, excellence is thwarted, how can we progress. we should make it a commitment that for our personal gains we wont compromise national honour and dignity,at all times our nation stands first next everything. We have hope in people like Abdul Kalam,Atal Bihari vajpayee, we want such people who can lead us not politicians.
It is enlightening to read such interaction. The moral is the prime issue. Every bit of effort is made by the Political system to fragment this country and its social fabric. The root of degradation is high population and increasing uncertainties arising out of it. This is exploited by all political parties and the visionaries have gone in to deeply buried strata. Rat race is for money and that is the only matter that has been respected. We have to blame our-selves for this moral genocide. Unless we come out of it fast we would be viewed as super corrupt nation than a super power. Even the achevements of this country would be in the wrong hands of this corrupt lot of politicians which even could collapse the advantage of those achievements. .M. bhatt

I'd say that the country is improving by leaps and bounds..What is wrong with making money?Money is the result of the efforts of our success and hardwork....its a lot better than the days of kings where position and importance were given on account of a persons birth in a specific family...Abuse of power happens less today....The morality aspect is crap.....Hardwork leads to more jobs being created ,the more money we invest and make the more lives are saved....Our sympathy and so called indian values are not going to feed the millions of impoverished.....What we need is investment and proper channeling of money and resources....I'd say hats off to the industrialists....u hve to create money before u distribute it...These so called Charity organisations and NGO's cannot function without industrial backing...We we spend our money it gets distributed within the country and helps the economy grow...I'd say that we are slowly becoming more moral than ever before....

Let's see if you say the same when you are retired. When you start becoming spiritual (if you are lucky). By the time you realize this, it will be too late.

Ash,
indians are negative and they will always keep whining and thinking negative about their society and nation.
Nothing will change in this way.
Problem is with Rediff management who is giving highlight to a "negative" remark from ex-L.general from Army instead of quoting something "positive" things he said about India in above article.
Rediff has disappointed me with such negative angle given to a great interview.
Dear rediff, why you are putting "negative" headlines always in your articles? Is someone paying you to spread depressive stuff among young generation?
You know guys(rediff), this is the reason our scientists and young minds perform better in West. They are given good environment, POSITIVE thinking and views in media. But our great Indian media who always takes pride in spreading negative news in public, it affects our young minds and it diverts their minds from creative or innovative work.
No wonder that our young people do better in West but fail in India. Because rediff and some foreign funders of it has some vested interests to keep indian public negative and depressed about their nation.

Dear Friend,
Allow me to differ from your views. I cannot get myself to believe that an honest and fair introspection of the society is a reflection of our negativity, as a nation. It only symbolizes that our newfound success has not blinded our sense of right and wrong.
Of course it would be a folly to believe that all is well with our beloved nation. The objective of these assessments is not to generate a sense of inferiority in the masses but to suggest the areas of probable improvements.
As for the role of media in India is concerned I agree that there may be a few black sheep but Indian media as a whole is fairly independent and credible.
The proof is for you to see in the form of your response. Have Rediff been biased they would have chosen not to publish it. But then objectivity is a mark of a fair and objective media.
And for your information Rediff is a Mumbai based company.
Hope you will take this correspondence in the same spirit of friendliness in which it is written.
N.B. : I am neither employed with Rediff.com nor their lawyer.
we don't have to reinvent the wheel. All we need is to go back to our dharmic principles rather than trying to distance ourselves from hinduism just to be PSEUDO-Secular and Leftist.
Ppl should put their minds to work and do things their heart feels is right rather than trying to do things out of peer pressure. eg of this behaviour are Indians speaking only english and shunning away from their mother tongue, be leftist in views, all newspapers are leftist, youngsters wanna ape the westerners in bad things(not the good things), make a mountain out of a molehill when it comes to acheivement.
We Indians haven't acheived squat. Lets faceup to the reality and start being more moral.
It is very easy to generalise and pass on the blame to bureaucracy. I do not believe in such generalisations. All government employees can not be corrupt. There are some incorruptible persons everywhere, among the politicians among the government employees everyehere and in every sphere. Two things are to be blamed one is system another is attitude. Consumerism has spread like a virus. All are running after electronic items, house hold gadgets, a/c, freedge, cars, posh apartments, club membership, etc. A gap is created between the demand and supply. You can not increase the supply of money easily unless you resort to unfair means. A simple life style should be encouraged. Thuere should be compulsory teaching of moral sciences and values in all syllabus of study. There should be stringent measures of punishment for corrupt practices as well. However difficult it may sound this has to be done for us and future generation.
morality in india is facing a sharp decline in recent times bcoz of the boom in IT industry. majority in india coming to this field r unmarried youngsters, who r away from their family, but getting a huge chunk of money, which they can misuse very well

Well boom in IT has nothing to do with decline in morality. Main cause is the POLITICIAN of the day who does all sorts of circus to ensure that he gets votes and in the process the total decline of the society on all the fronts is happening.

Well those non-IT people who inspite of wishing could not have their sexual desire fulfilled is infact less-moral values on part of India. what makes having sex with or without marriage is moral or not moral. but I am sorry Naresh, immature people like you cannot even understand what i mean to say. raping 20-30 children in nithari, police beating the parents of those children. thousands of hindu-muslims burnt alive in gujarat just for votes, politician playing dirty politics in Assam to promote Ulfa, criminals buying indian law and going scott free. this is infact less moral and not what 2 independent girl-boy do to relax themselves after heavy work in office.

Deepu please read the last two paragraphs of the above article, the word morality is not only used when it comes to "sex". ( sadly most of our country men think in that pretext...when they start judging a person it some how finds the path to a bedroom.) The morality spoken here is all round and so true there is discipline in this country, there is so much corruption, let me put it again our civic senses are the one of the worst. Do we have a single city in this country that can be compared with world cities..? Of course they are big but most of it looks like a ramshackle. The mind set up of the people need to change dramatically which i think is highly unlikely. This is why i am not proud of my country. And i am defenitily not going sing "India is the best" like most of the hipocrites in this country. That stupid industry called Bollywood could have brought about some changes to the mental set up of this country sadly it cant coz most of the people reject intelligent and quality movies for movies in which a man or a woman is running after each other. Dont you poeple get tired of that crap..? My Salutations to you Lieutenant General M L Thapan
I feel , morality is corelated with self decipline. if a person having strong thinking and habit of self decipline the morality will follow. it has more strong reason of failing because of low level of education in our country and MONEY GREED.today we have all become greedy. i would use this word SMARTNESS as greedy ness and shrewdness. Smartness is nothing but how greedy and shrewd you are to go for a kill and earn wealth in society. that is how people percieve & think.
As far as politics is concerned.than i am an individual who simply dislike it. I have never casted a vote in my life so far and never will.because people say that it is your right to vote than, it is my right too not to vote.
I wish the parliament attack could have suceeded. at list all the BUNCH OF JOKERS sitting out there in parliment would have died and we could have got some fresh young blood. Even i would have thought otherwise to cast a vote.
If this situation continues like this, then after 20 years we will see police collecting hafta from innocent people. neta will just pick up any girl and rape. guddas will have no fear (already they dont have). there is going to be a civilian war in india. oppressed vs rich. and believe me all those rich and middle class who is little bit ethical will be oppressed lot. Its sure going to happen. our children future is not save. its better our children go to foreign countries and settle. these netas will make each muslim and hindu fight eachother. each low caste fight upper caste. each poor fight rich. whatever legality/justice is left will evaporate. Its a silient policy adopted by these netas not to expand high couts/supreme courts. So that justice will just saturate in the time to come with the population growth we have. Indians believe me, start counting your happiness days. its not going to last long. the parasites are already in our house. Stop them or decay yourself. well you dont have any choice, because WE INDIANS VOTE FOR PARASITES.
