Special grant to madrasas to celebrate Independence Day

Chandrani Banerjee in New Delhi | PTI | December 30, 2007 | 22:24 IST

Madrasas will now get a special grant to celebrate national festivals like Independence Day and Republic Day but hoisting of the national tricolour on these days will be mandatory for such institutions.

These are the new government decisions outlined in the 11th Five Year Plan that was approved by the National
Development Council recently. The Plan document, under the head 'Madarsas/Maktabs', says that "Every School and EGS/AIE center will receive a special grant to celebrate national festivals of Independence day and Republic Day. Hoisting of national flag at these institutions on these occasions is mandatory".

The document says that the government would support modernisation of all madrasas and maktabs, whose number is
around 12,000, during the five-year plan. The document also talks about the need to inculcate human values and other kinds of worldly awareness among children to help them shape well for their future.

"Education in human moral values, civic duties, environment protection and physical education will be built into the system whereby every child is prepared to face the future with a healthy frame of mind and body and become a
reasonable citizen," it says. The plan document also says that education at madrasas and maktabs will foster the spirit of liberty, freedom, patriotism, non-violence, tolerance national unity and

Complete insulation
by Raghu on Dec 31, 2007 01:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why keep crying about cross border sponsorship? I sometimes wonder whether this is true at all? If it were, what are we doing about it? Making their job easier by "Samjhuatas" and common people interactions?

Isn't complete insulation from Pakistan desirable ? DRDO should be asked to develop specific electronic border watching and counter insurgency technologies . I feel any amount of money and effort is worth it.

Guru Nanak declared neither im a hindu nor musalman
by Shamsher Mann on Dec 31, 2007 01:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

well now it should be add nor im a sikh because according to his philosophy everyone is children of nature.if humanity dies in a person he is of no use. no use blaming muslims, hindus, christians, sikhs xyz because we all are equally responsible for this mess. we should stop this poison of hatred and try to achive what gurus called for to become civilised, filled with love without bounds for everyone. remember god will not stop a terroist. he is always giving his unconditional love to humanity, sitting in our hearts and saying what is wrong to right, he does not distinguish between religions, its upto us to listen it and choose what god we want to savour.

In principle you are right Mr. Shamsher Mann. The trouble is once the thinking feeling and beliefs become unduely rigid, as that of terrorist, it does not matter if he or she is Muslim, Sikh, Christan, or Hindu, they will follow the path of Human Killings only. Of course all talk the principle for common man injustic etc. Any nos. of excueses are given for becoming militant. May be research work is done for generating such right looking like excuses. Sorry if I have hurt anybody's feelings

sikh-hindu are inseperable.
by manoj on Dec 31, 2007 01:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its not question of hindu-sikh devide. since hinduism is mother of sikh relegion and sikh people have always protected it and will do it in future. Also the Delhi riot was not against hindu-sikh. It was sikh verses indian society which was angry for violance caused by sikh extreemists in 10 years of punjaab problem.
Now educated sikh should never let extreemists come again and give it bad name like muslim relegion has got. sikh are very educated and hard working people. they serve the naton more than any other community. but extreemists will ruine every thing.

manoj don't justify 1984 anti sikh pogrom. It was sikhs vs. hindu riots..plain and simple. it's stupid to justify it.

also sikhs are not hindus. it is a distinct religion which at one time was protecting not just hindus but also others who were weak and oppressed.

I am myself a sikh and I am ashamed to hear that Pakistan is trying to revive sikh militancy in Punjab. Instead, these foolish "sikh terrorists" should realise that what is more important is the economic development of Punjab and INDIA as a whole.
Similarly, we should adopt a zero tolerance policy towards the groups like the Babbar Khalsa and wipe them out at the earliest.

even they are very much part of INDIAN community. no question of defaming their contribution. their existance and growth in percentage of their population, The existance of mosques and freedom to worship for them is the proof of considering them as one of us by the MAJORITY.

BUT, the problem we have is with those mad minded Muslim leaders and peoples who are spreading hatred towards hinduism. and helping ISI in activities against INDIA.
