Modi and VHP will Lead India the Pak way
by sony kalloor on Dec 29, 2007 06:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No individual leader in Pakistan has been a match for the accumulated problems of the country. Some of these problems have existed from the day Pakistan came into existence. A national identity, universally acceptable within the country, remains elusive. The polity and the ruling elites have not been able to reach a consensus on what should be the acceptable goals for the nation. Although the State is an Islamic republic, identifiable and articulate groups want it converted into an Islamist entity. The strength of such groups is on the ascendancy as Talibanisation creeps in on an incremental scale.

A failed state with nuclear weapons
by Subhasis Dig on Dec 29, 2007 05:32 PM  Permalink

In early 2005, a joint security assessment by the CIA and the U.S. National Intelligence Council predicted Pakistan would become "a failed state, ripe with civil war, bloodshed, inter-provincial rivalries and a struggle for control of its nuclear weapons and complete Talibanisation" by 2015.

Following Bhutto's death in Rawalpindi on Thursday, some experts believe the timeframe on that assessment may now have been brought forward, with political upheaval pitching Pakistan, a nuclear-armed power since 1998, towards breakdown.

Given that Musharraf, an important U.S. ally in the battle against militants, also has to juggle the fact that elements of his military have sympathy with the Taliban and al Qaeda, the possibility of nuclear security being compromised exists.

More probable is that nuclear material, such as small quantities of radioactive uranium, would be passed on, allowing groups such as al Qaeda to develop so-called "dirty bombs".

Al Qaeda's desire to get hold of such weapons is long held -- Gohel says the group has had a Weapons of Mass Destruction committee for several years, with most members still at large.

India must be cautious
by dora babu on Dec 29, 2007 03:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Terrorists are already making their presence felt in India, under psuedo secular rule. Don't think that only congress is psuedo secular. Now almost all political parties in India became psuedo secular and Minority obsessed. They have become blind and deaf to the terrorist forces that are getting stronger due the liniency by govt. India needs someone like Narendra Modi. He has made it very clear in Gujarat that whoever provokes the peace and stability must be annihilated. That's why he could promise a riot free state to the people of Gujarat. We need the same kind of Political convition at the central level. BJP did give the conviction before it came to power. But, having tasted power, it has also fallen in Psuedo trap. Thus lost the power. BJP must mend it's ways and must be in line with RSS to represent true Hindu sentiments. They must announce and assert to the world that Hinduism is the way of life for Indians. True democracy must be set in India. The existing DEMONcracy must be removed from it's roots.

Bhutto the fugitive politician
by Shahryar Pax on Dec 29, 2007 03:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

People have such short memories!

Bhutto was a criminal under investigation in Switzerland, Spain, etc.

Mushy may have given her a stay-out-of-jail-free card (known as National Reconciliation Ordinance) so she could return to Pakistan but that does not make her a saint!
