Is it Modi's official duty or moral obligation to visit a dargah? For that matter, does he have to visit even a Hindu temple? In fact, secularism demands that persons holding a constitutional position or in public service should keep their religious beliefs and practices strictly private.

Even if they wanted to visit a Hindu temple, would you allow them to? Do you think they'll even have the guts to enter a Hindu temple in Gujarat?
If you're intent is to raise hatred in these forums, atleast post some intelligent comments.

Read what Afzal Kadiwala says in the above text
by sundar on Dec 23, 2007 06:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The statement reflects the midset of some of teh muslims as cultivated by Congress over the decades. Visiting Dargah by a Hindu means the hindu is a secular and cares for muslims.
f he doesnt visit it then he is a communal. How stupid of? This is how Congress has prayed on Muslims so far.
Modiji is very clear. he will not patronize such nonsense.
Atalji or jaswantji visiting Ajmer Dargah is on a personal front. They didnt go there to show the world they care for muslims.
Karunanidhi's of the world will participate in Id fast-breaking meal done by muslims without he undergoing any such. Muslims want such symbolism. modiji is rank against such nonsense.

But they shouldn't doubt the secular credentails of other by saying that leaders are not visiting durgah. Do they visit Temples to prove their secular credentials? Moreover where Hindu Muslim roits took place its not first created by Hindus but trouble started first from other side so what these people expect to keep mum over whatever they do against hindus? Any antinational whatever religion they follow they should be delt with IRON HAND. MODI never killed any innocent muslim so far but yes his govt is aginst of all muslims who are antinationals. People with reasonable sense will not advocate for those antinationals

Remove this article from Rediff.com
by scooter man on Dec 23, 2007 05:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How and why did rediff.com allow such an article to be put up? this is not responsible journalism. This article encourages the already existing animosity between certain sections of the Hindu and Muslim society.

If rediff.com believes that the purpose of this article is to show-case the true picture of Gujrat, it sadly doesnt do so..

This article is not in national interest.. Journalist are not suppose to take any political stand..

Shame on Rediff.com

I think ajit balakrishnan of Rediff should act immediatly on this.

a complaining bunch
by John Koli on Dec 23, 2007 05:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is quite unfortunate that a large number of people from the muslim community in India keep complaining if they cannot get everything. You come to West Bengal and you will see that the communists have done far little for muslims in reality (and, of course, the hindus, too) than has happened in Gujarat. Modi seems to be interested only in general development rather than giving special priviledges based on religion, and that is being resented by some people, and exploited by the the other parties.
I hate Modi for the riots, but I can understand the anger that gave rise to the riots. At the same time, I would hope the Modi understands that two wrongs do not make a right. He seems to have understood that going by his actions in the last 5 years.
If things go this way, he should consider the post of PM. This is a man who can actually make changes in India since he does not try to be politically correct on religion and minority issues. He does what is equitable and fair.
BTW, minorities will always complain in spite of being given more than a fair share unless the government is strong enough -- that is human nature.

Me two, one more things I would like to add, when BJP Manifesto was in make, he objected to any kind of Pardon to Power Thefts culprits who had been jailed in his regime hwich shows that he is not going for any populist kind of formula to win just elections but with logical mind which is good for Gujarat and nation at large
