Its not safe at all to draw any conclusion on the basis of such surveys and comparisons, India for sure has freedom for press & Law and order in place. For such a big country few isolated incidents should not be used to do ranking of 1.25 Billion Strong Country.
standard of journalism has fallen to such a level that this come out not as a surprise. The number of deaths will go up if the standard remains the same.

thats the point, for the quality of journalism they do, it better be that way. Still after all this, they are better off than being in SL, Pak, Somalia etc etc.

Just a moot point - if we want to get the top honours for this then let us kill quite a few more every year so that we can achieve that distinction too. After all I believe that we have too many unwanted, insipid and worthless journalists in our country. These "goons" completed some third degree courses from C and D level schools and institutions and embarked on ambitious "investigative journalism" projects. Journalism has never been this bad in the past. It has gone beyond the levels of decency and is fast becoming a shadow of yellow journalism. As a sign-off point I believe investigative journalism is still in its embryonic stage and has a long way to go. May be the last well known investigative journalist was Arun Shourie. The rest fell by the way side including my own state man - N.Ram.

Its because the population is not taken into account. If you take the ratio for a billion people its very very less compared to other countries. This is baseless and defaming India.

What do u think is population of Somalia? :P Still it is a useless survey, as quality of journalism is not considered..
Is someone reading this report not curious which are the 8 countries worse than India by order. Will it not make sense to give at least the 10 names somewhere.
Is this way of reporting one of the reasons why this number is so high in India? :0 Sorry to be looking rude but I'm curious to find if Russia appears in the list dude.
Journalism in India is really a dangerous job. They cannot publish the bitter truth. IF they dare to do then there families will be crushed by the powerful politicians. This is a less law state where there is no difference between POLICE and CRIMINALS.
Editor of the 'The Hindu' has to go through so many difficulties when he published an article about Jayalalitha. He and his family members were terrorized.
I am really surprised to see India in 9th spot......

Who decided what is the truth? I feel there are a lot of people in Indian media who just want to write controversial articles just to be in lime light without even looking the other side of the story!!! So many people are just behind the big scoop! e.g. - Sheela Bhatt ...
These are the so called journalists who are making this job hatted by so many people! We need more people like Barkha Dutt and less like Sheela Bhatt
