mar hi dalo na yaar. Murdabaad kab tak bolte rahoge. Jab tak sarhadd par se aatankavadi aate rahe ge tab tak kya haath par haath dhare rahoge ?
When you watch "Future Weapons" on the Discovery Channel.. it is amazing the way American scientists are so focussed and innovative in developing strategic missiles like the MOAB (Massive Ordanance Bomb - nicknamed "Mother of all Bombs") which pack awesome destructive capabilities but are used as deterrent against any sort of mis-adventure...
India should raise the salaries of the Defence scientists astronomically to prevent brain-drain from India to countries like the US. Indian scientists pack enormous amount of ingenuity and skillsets but run off to the US because it is there, that their skills are amply reimbursed.
It is a pity that Indian government is so focussed on its internal bickerings that we are actually turning a blind eye to the enormous amount of brain-drain happening to India. If we stopped this brain-drain, then I am sure India would be miles ahead of countries like Pakistan, which is presently matching India step to step, in defence initiatives. I am sure if India can retain its scientists financially and morally, Pakistan would soon be left behind running on a bullock cart while our scientists take us ahead on a Ferrari...!!!

Guys,
One thing nobody has observed is that in the developed world most of these companies are Private sector companies.
Dont get fooled even the government scientists in the US are not greatly paid.
The problem is not salary by itself which the government pays, but it has to go to the policy level where private sector companies are allowed and encouraged to develop sytems for the defence sector.
In most of the developed world, the biggest defence companies are all private like BAe Systems, Northrup Grummon, Lockheed martin Boeing, General Dynamics etc. These companies are also actively funded by the governments.
There are a few companies where the government has stakes but is very limited. yet they work like Private companies.
An example is EADS where the govermnets of France, Germany etc have stakes.
So really it is not about increasing the salaries of scientists, but it is about the government policy to allow private sector into defence ans aerospace and encouraging it.

Ritu, problem here is that clerical type of people become directors of govt. institutions. they want to hire scientists like they hire peons and clerks. a meagre salary and a meagre raise every year. these people are unfit for scientist hiring. you rightly mentioned raise salaries ASTRONOMICALLY to attract talent else keep crying on brain-drain.
India should now actually go into full fledged ICBM testing and production which should be able to target any part of China and should induct these missiles as soon as possible in the inventory (say within a couple of years). we already have the PSLV technology which can be converted and testing wont require much time. and then maybe teach the overbloated, overconfident pakistan a lesson showing who is the boss.

they know who is the boss. All this will just help them to bring tremors in their asses. These guys are all mischievous and always for planning for some or the other [mis]adventure against India. These should be able to scare them off and keep their asses parked at their homes.
Our scientists are testing misiles for the last twenty years. It is high time to produce in bulk for safety of our country as well as for commercial purpose.
