Go Nuclear?
by Srinivas vishnu on Dec 19, 2007 10:05 AM  Permalink

We in India is blessed with peninsular coast line which is good for harnessing Wind energy. Also, Other modes of energy were never encouraged enough to put them to competition to nuclear power. If we are to go for nuclear power, I wish we do it indegineously like China and get the right to it than be slaves and dictatorial attitudes which we see now. I sense corruption at the highest level for the eagerness to sign the unilateral treaties which they have not shown to solve the other important impending problems of the country. Also, I am surprised when our leaders approached US without first consulting our long time allies like Russia, and our own Scietists. So many of our scientists work abroad in critical technologies that many would come back to develop and serve the country if offered positively. The plan to Moon by BJP govt is a right step to encourage our space scientists and to deveop critical technologies to do that - not to import them and sigh a pulse of relief with just one launch. Our scientist have to understand these and work accordingly.

Strategic goal
by Anurag Shrivastava on Dec 19, 2007 09:31 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Much like the goal of Pakistan is to one day destroy India and hurl its flag on Red Fort, the goal of the US administration is to prevent proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The main aim of this deal is to cap India's nuclear program not enhance it. This is how this deal have been sold to the Congress else it will not have any support. The deal will enable US to establish people to people contact with India's nuclear scientists which will enable them an opportunity to develop HUMINT a.k.a spies in the nuclear establishment.
Currently the Indian program is cloaked in secrecy and I suppose it must remain that way. We need U235 and plutonium to make bombs and not produce power. I think we have sufficient material for a lot more time in future.

The left sucks on economics ( and I would be happy if they copy Chinese ) but it has taken a decent stand this time. Much like how they stopped our troops from going to Iraq 4 years back.

I think that's a very parochial way of looking at things...Let's not forget what this inward-looking approach has done to us in the last 40 years...fact of the matter is that most urban centres in India continue to reel from power cuts, leave alone villages..where no one has any power to crow about...

Going back to wind/solar energy, you can't rely on those sources alone, as they are not so cost efficient for bulk requirements..they are good as power supplements, not as primary sources of power..

Prime Minister said following lies many times after signing the agreement:
by Sahadevan KK on Dec 19, 2007 09:26 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1. Firstly he said Indo-Nuclear deal is a revolution for India.
2. Then said whole Parliament is with me and will make a consensus.
3. Then said if the Left rejects it, it can take back their support.
4. In this situation, he said entire UPA is with me.
5. After the Nuclear Panel formation, when discussion made, Laloo, Pawar, Paswan, Karunanidhi like leaders are also left.
6. When he met BJP leaders, he has a little bit hope, he can pass it in the parliament with voting.
7. After people knowing the deal through the channels, Tehelka exclusive on Gujarat riot, he rejected the voting in Parliament.
8. At last BJP was also against, when discussed Nuclear bill in Parliament.
9. The bitter truth (he never told others -- I think it is also a lie) is that he does not have support of main Congress leaders also.

You seem to be living in a fools paradise. No one cares about the nuke deal , let alone understand it. BJP may or may not come to power which will depend on how Congress does in next 2 years or earlier. - but your post is fanciful.

US is good and for better India.
by Kumar Anil on Dec 19, 2007 02:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ok, i agree with you at some negative point about US. But if you look in past, US has done lot for India, it may be surprise to you that till now US sponsored few IIT and BHU for India's agriculture coz India depend on Agriculture more than anything else. And US sponsored such IITs and BHU since 1947, recently US withdraw its supports because India is capable now to deal by itself. This is good side...Nuclear deal also give benefits to Indians only... Politician living in India
because of there dirty politics and they have already make this country horrible. Stop listening these poor politician.
Another strong point is, If India stay together with US then India can rule over Asia otherwise China and even Pakistan will dominate India.

Lats point is, even till now India is not able to make simple LCA aircraft since last 30 years and buying aircraft is not simply development, India should only capable after involving good country like US and other Europian country too.

US has done a lot for India? Examples-Supporting Pakistan based Islamic terrorists which have killed thousands of Indian citizens. Supported Khalistanis, North Eastern militants.
US has undermined India in every forum, and every opporunity it got. If US just stops subverting India, we can take Chinese. These guys are too fixated with India's rudimentary nuclear capability. They want India to be defenceless so that they can provide 'protection' from Pakistan and China. No thanks

@Arman: your reply is ridiculous. The US has supported India more than it deserves. Even when Nehru and his whining bunch cosied up to China while sneering at US and its allies, the US still helped India when the Bhai Bhai Chinese shoved a rifle butt up Nehru's ass. In fact it was the US threat to come to India's aid, if China does not withdraw that saves India from being a vassal state like Tibet. The US supported Pakistan when India started to support USSR etc. Americans, unlike Europeans, might be easy going but they are not stupid.

Check history bro and read your books..
US has done nothing anywhere other than to protect its personal interest(the interests of big MNCs). Whether its creating Jihadi's against USSR in Afghanistan/Pakistan or helping Saddam gas the kurds then killing him for that. Or the millions in vietnam.

The real players whether its defence, commercial or nuclear are the big MNCs. Its for them puppet Bush is playing. Remember defence is one of the big industries in US.

IT/BPOs happened because MNCs wanted bigger cut in their profits.

The problem with LCA is not co-operation with US but inability and lackoff funds. Blame it on us b'coz we are the ones who elect.

And believe me what US cos wants is to move their old nuclear plants and escape from the strict laws in US for dismantling such things :)

OK lets see the nuclear deal
by Arman on Dec 19, 2007 02:25 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1. India buys nuclear plants at exhorbitant price
2. Beg 45 countries to give uranium
3. Power generated from these plants is three times more expensive
4. Has to spend millions for security of these plants

5. India remains open to blackmail that uranium supply to power pants would be cut off

6. India separates civilian and defense related nuclea plants when the whole world knows that it is not possible. Has US done that?

7. US legally spies on our scientists, and research institutions.

8. If the US does not keep its end of the promise, India still cannot ask from removing the spies from nuclear insitutions under perpetuity class.

You call this a deal? It is worse than surrender. US calls this a partnership?

Many Indians and BJP would like closer relations with US but US is still stuck in cap, roll back, and eliminate India's nuclear capability mode. Nothing has changed since 1990. US has not changed its objective at all, only methods have changed.

Dump the deal. If the relations go sour, let it be. India should start rejoining China, Russia triangle. US has not been an honest partner. China will have ( probably already has) more GDP than US anyway.

As Kissinger says, US is more dangerous as a 'friend'. India has realized that.

Some of your statements are facts, some are flights of fancy, perpetuated through the mothballed perceptions of people who've never ever tried to understand wht stands/or against India's interests.....The very junta that abhors all things American doesn't bat an eyelid before dispatching their kin to the land of oppty, or taking umpteen trips there and crowing about the same.....so while all these are good thoughts, actually, & some of theme reasonable, others are fit to be consigned to the baskets of some good Bollywood potboiler producers... Cheers

Excellent. I didn't know these many facts about the so called deal.

I may not be much mistaen if I say this additionally:Many readers who post their so called comments blindly say 'dump Commies, get rid of socialism (as if India is a socialist country), capitalism zindabad...'. In my opinion quite many of them are software people. If that is so, what logic do they follow when judging a situation?

One must realize the obvious fact that:India requires power.

India must achieve self sustenance, no to US, no to China.... Why not extract tidal energy and other forms in addition to setting up more nuclear power plants by ourselves?

If N deals fails......
by Anil Bharali on Dec 19, 2007 12:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

According to Bouton, damage will be at political and official level. Particularly Bush adminisistration will be embarrased. As perIndia's political tract record it doesnot deserve any sanction but it is America which had doubt on india's intention. It is American policy that made IndoUS relation strenous for last 35 yrs.Now it is America that is more interested to close this un happy chapter through N deal with strategic alliance.Out of this alliance india has to sacrifice its independant foreign policy.India has to be tactically looser twice.Sucide bombing will be a phenomenon in india . Now Pakistan is facing.India will errode from inside as result of American policy influence what Nicholas Burns did not elaborate'' What is worse'' that might result from this N deal.
