There is no alternate to Modi and BJP today
by Tathagata Mukherjee on Dec 18, 2007 08:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Post Nandigram, Taslima, CPIM has proved to be a party of thugs who surrender to Islamic Fundamentalists.

Congress has no ideology- its Rahul Baba speaks exactly opposite things during UP election in two consecutive days.

With specter of Jehad spreading in India big way, prospect of Muslim reservation etc happening, BJP is the only party who can rule with iron hand.

ONLY BJP AND MODI ARE CREDIBLE.

YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT- BUT ITS THE TRUTH.

Grey area
by Samosachat on Dec 18, 2007 06:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Only westerners have coined phrases like black and white and grey area. The minute you talk about grey area you are not talking absolutes. I dont think any westerner admits bombing Hiroshima was wrong even if they did there is a but after that. When you say western it includes Germany and Russia also. Then there is nothing like absolute morality. ( may be absolute immorality)

Foreigners most absoulte moralists?
by Ankita Gupta on Dec 18, 2007 06:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What did britishers biased rule do in India, divide and rule...is it moral?

What did britishers do in Africa, is it moral?

What did americans do in Combodia, is it moral?

What did russians do in Afghanistan, is it moral?

What malaysia is doing with Indians, is it moral?

Who says foreighers are most absolute moralists, they change their morals according to their needs/requirement/interests etc.

Just go to a busy filling station in america or britain and observe yourself.

The barbarism and atrocities committed by the French, British, Portuguese, and Dutch in India is beyond words. The problem is they didn't find any space in history, so we can read it.

Usually,Things are much simpler!
by santosh satpathy on Dec 18, 2007 06:29 PM  Permalink

Finally an article in Rediff that provides food for thoughts. In my view ,the whole argument that " while Westerners function on moral absolutes, Indians function on contextual morality" is far more universal than just indian .More over, its merely two schools approches where one is being "practical" and the other one is being "ideal".Or just about the difference of opinion between liberals & conservatives. And about the Modi example,i wd say in a big vast complex nation like ours one always gonna find Modis,Bal Thakres,Mayawatis & even a Karunanidhi around. Its simply a matter of supply & demand.

This is a typical Indian author. Using complicated words to give a simple message. The last line should have been sufficient to put up his point

Triggers that matter most

A significant section of educated Hindus, today thinks that the so called secular parties have taken Hindus for granted and have focused on dividing them rather than solving problems of the majority.

The convenient tool of caste is exploited to the hilt by Congress, BSP, etc and even those who did not really want to think that way (ex: communists) are fallen into the trap of this social justice. Social justice is required, but not through the instrument of caste or religion. It should have been based on economic status.

We have such lenient laws to allow the unscrupulous politicians, administrative machinery, police, tax officials, etc to escape with day light robbery of the common public.

We have created complicated laws and laws that are archaic, to make life miserable for common man. This helps the administrative machinery, tax consultants, etc, to exploit the public. The poor have remained poor while those who have had access to power or education have progressed.

So, it is natural for the morality to be not absolute in this context. People justify anything and everything according to their whims and fancies. A politician justifies riots, bribery, abuse of fundamental rights as eloquently as a lawyer who defends the most indefensible criminal.

Compromise, exploitation and silent acceptance of the brutal suppression of fellow citizen has become an accepted way of life.
