The writer says - Pawar, arguably the tallest Maratha leader Maharashtra has had since Shivaji and Yashwantrao Chavan.....this writer must be crazy.... either she is a NCP insider or an inexperienced newcomer.. firstly Shivaji undoubtedly is the greatest hero of Maharashtra, when whole of India was being ruled by Mughals / Kutubs / Nizams he had the guts to think of "swarajya"... he was the only hindu king in the islamic India of 17th century..who carved his swarajya out of the land ruled by these rulers... Giving Mr. Pawar place in the same row is sheer foolishness, further it also shows lack of knowledge of history...and insults so many great leaders this land produced after shivaji Marathas kept fighting with all the invaders and once ruled from Tanjavur in Kerala to Attak (now on Pak - Afghan border)with its capital in Pune... how could the writer forget Sambhai Raje Bajiarao Peshawe Madhavrao Peshawe Bhausaheb Peshawe - the hero of Panipat who fought a great war against Ahmedshah Abdali to save Dilli Takht... the pride of India How could she forget Lokmanya Tilak... the lion of freedom struggle...and if she and rediff thinks Pawar is taller than bal gangadhar tilak...then they should be sent to schools again, or to Munnabhai ki library to read more books... anand

mr swami, how can u say peshwas didnt create anything... for your information - after the death of Sambhaji Raje, Mughals got back most of their territory, it was during the rule of peshwas maharashtra ruled from south to north.... seed that was sown by Shivaji grew in the peshwe rule.. if u say we are talking from the point of view of creating swarajya, then which swarajya did mr pawar create...

My friend, please don't look at history from caste prisom. We need to be proud of our great heritage. Peshwa did expand the Maratha empire created by Shivaji/Sambhaji Maharaj.
And writer probably meant leader from "Maratha" community. But still, I think there were VERY tall maratha leaders between Shivaji Maharaj and Yashwantrao Chavan. To name the few:
1. Mahadaji Shinde of Gwalior 2. Malharrao Holkar of Indor 3. Bhosale from Nagpur 4. Bhosale from Tanjor 5. Gaikwad from Baroda 6. Bhosale from Sawantwadi 7. Shahu Maharaj of Satara
We as Marahi are proud of this great heritage. Author is VERY weak on history and I think rediff needs to be very careful on what to publish on its website.

Mahadji Shinde...a Maratha ? He was self proclaimed Maratha, not a real one. Otherwise, Jiwaji wouldn't have informed the British and got Lakshmibai killed.
This is his second term as a CM but look at the work he has done in the following terms.Does anyone in Maharashtra remember any work done by him.Look at the following points.
1) Anyhting done in Maharashtra to solve the power problems.
2) Farmers suicide - Still happening God alone knows what is happening to the aid given or allotted to them
3) Law & Order - We have Bomb Blasts (Culprits still not caught).Monsoon Havoc in Mumbai remember 22.7.2004.
4) Look at the quality of Roads.It takes more time it used to 2 - 3 years ago.
5) Octroi nothing done - Gujarat abolished octroi in a single day
6) States like Karnataka, Gujarat have prospered like anything. Maharashtra inspite of having better infrastrcture has lacked behind

Karnataka has prospered but that is due to its people not the government. In fact, in the whole of India, any place can prosper only despite the Government not due to it.
Time will tell, Mr. Pawar would be the most corrupt politician in India even bigger then Laloo . When ever, any big financial irregularities happened in past, some way or other his name is there in News. Even so many people believe that recent exponential growth in real state prices across the Mumbai is due to Mr. Pawar and Mr. Deshmukh. These people are running their personal Building projects and politics is their part time job. Any how , we are public and have no option but to bear them.

I don't know why Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav has become an example for corruption. He is not half as corrupt as most of the other high class politicians. The media and elites in the society have been unfair to him.

Mr.Pawar is representing On/y BARAMATI & W.Maharashtra to some extent.He has focused only Baramati & developed it.If he wanted,he could have devloped entire state of Maharashtra including Marathwada & Vidarbha,but he did not do it.(he has that Power/Guts etc.but he did dot do it.God only knows the reason.The Farmers are commiting suicide in Maharashtra & Pawar saheb is the union agriculture minister.This is the biggest irony of our politics.Everyone is trying to fill his own pocket & least bothered about others.The ministers are spending corores of Rs. for the marriage functions of their sons & daughters. If all the ministers & MLAs decide by heart,they can contribute from their own pockets & help the farmers,the problem will get solved in a day.All the suicides will stop.But who cares?everyone is busy in saving his own chair.(The game of musical chair for CM's chair is on for a long time in congress party.This is the reason Vilasrao can not concentrate on his JOB.It is surprising that Mrs.Sonia Gandhi can not stop this nonsense.
Pawar's daughter has just entered into Politics and it is not the right time for him to think over it. He will take this decision once his daughter come up to that level.Why he should displace a CM, VilasRao is as good as his own Party men, no difference.

Yes I've read the whole book. And fool is one who calls it a book on mythology. The book in fact is about state-craft and it is the most shameless book ever written in India. Kamasutra may sound more decent if you read that.
What will happen if there will be other CM? or other party CM? the problems will get continued & there will be no change in scean if anybody will seat on that chair! The corruption will go on, the suicide of farmers will continue, the criminals will move arround on bail, Powercut down problem will increase & at the same time they want more & more power consuming Industries in State to show the development this is the picture of Maharashtra.
