DYER AND BUDDHADEB - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
by MGR Fan on Dec 11, 2007 10:42 PM  Permalink

Yes it was very correct to remove Photo of the genocidal Britishman Dyer from Sikh Museum.

But what about Buddhadeb, the man behind Nandigram genocide, when are we going to remove him from the CM post in Bengal?

Who is this Sir ?
by praada on Dec 11, 2007 06:29 PM  Permalink

Who is this "Sir" in "Sir Michael O'Dwyer"? Its a shame to carry these kinds of tags while reporting about people like this. He is a "Sir" for the guys who confered him this title, not for the Indians.

INSTEAD OF REMOVING IT THEY SHOULD HAVE KEPT IT SEPARATELY!
by Kabeer on Dec 11, 2007 04:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

By removing it they have also suppressed his misdeeds from the publics perception.

Instead of removing it altogether, they should have kept is separated from others with a breif description of his gory deeds! Only when people understand how valuable is the freedom that they are enjoying they value it better and try to preserve it.

By removing it they are also not making the public know how many people have sacrificed their lives for the sub-continents freedom! It is a foolish act! Passion over riding logic and sense!

Just because I am from Undivided India, some people are reporting abuse my posts and Rediff is hiding them!

Alas!

Try to appreciate and judge what was said than who said!

by Samit Mathur on Dec 11, 2007 05:41 PM  Permalink
This reporting abuse is a bit hype and direct hitting below the belt on "freedom of expression". Should be discuss further.

Kabeer is very right in saying that; reminding us of those days. The approach should be to remember the events always instead of making it "out of sight, out of mind".

I want all of you to remember each bit of Mumbai Local explosions, Mecca masjid explosions, Delhi (Diwali) explosions, Mumbai serial bomb blasts, riots 1993, J&K (since 1989-90) including all the terrible events since 1947

Absolutely spot on Kabeer. Its important to constantly remind future generations at what cost the freedom they enjoy was achieved and blood shed by unsung heroes of Indian freedom. His picture would be a grim reminder of the atrocities commited during the British Raj and it forms an integral part of our history.

One more thing Kabeer looking at some of your responses from earlier in the day, no religion preaches evil. There are only good and bad people everywhere irrespective of caste, colour or creed...You will always find people who have a difference of opinion...you need not bother

i'm not sure why this is in 'the Sikh museum of the Golden Temple in Amritsar'... does this museum also cater for political events... if so then why not include other political events in India ?

History Repeat Itself!!
by Tataghata Mukherjee on Dec 11, 2007 04:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I will give two instances that comes my mind when i read this vociferous suport for Modi & co in these msges.

No 1: It reminds me the overwhelming heros welcome & applause General Dyre got when he landed in England after commiting horrible grusome massacres of sikhs in Jaliyanawalabag, punjabin 1920.

No 2.It also reminds me about the unflinching support HITLER got from the German population for espousing a concept of super German race and branding Jews as worthless rodents & massacreing them.He also ended up destroying the same German nation & breaking it in to pieces as he lost WWII.

And history does repeat itself.

What about Aurangzeeb - who destroyed lakhs of Hindu temples?? What about Bangladeshi and Pakistani rulers, who killed the Hindus so much that they reduced from 20 - 25% to 2 - 4% of the population??

No body killed Hindus in Pakistan or Bangladesh. There might be some at the time of partition but it happened both sides of the border at that moment.

In fact Muslims killed Muslims in 71 in by West Pakistan in East Pakistan if that gives you any joy or solace!

The supporters were not there either because they are brahmins, chettiars, or Kshatriyas!

If the influential sections have to remain influential there are only two options: 1. Either defeat the British and throw them out or 2. Align with them and stay put in the power structure.

That is what the intelligentia (brahmins) businessmen (Chettiars) princely state rulers & Nawabs (Kshtriyas & Muslims) had done after failing in defeating the British. Their being Brahmins, Chettiars, Kshtriays & Muslims is purely incidental!

kshatriyas are kings and land lords and had to align with goras

chettiars had busniess intrest so aligned with goras

what did the brahmins had. why did they align with the rulers?

what did they do to be called intellegent people

or is it a title they named themselves like sir, bahadur given by the goras
