The word Hindu is not a religious word. It is secular in origin. It is derived from the word Sindhu, which is the name of a major river that flows in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. The ancient Greeks and Armenians used to refer the people living beyond the river Sindhu as Hindus and gradually the name struck. When the Muslims came to the sub continent they called the people living in the region as Hindustanis to distinguish them from the foreign Muslims. Subsequently when the British established their rule, they started calling the local religions collectively under the name of Hinduism.
It is interesting to note that the word is neither Sanskrit nor Dravidian and did not originate in India. It was not used by Indians in their descriptions or writings till the 17th century. If we go by the original definition of the word Hindu, any one who lives in the subcontinent is a Hindu and whatever religion he or she practices is Hinduism. The word Hindu is a secular word and literally translated it means Indian and the word Hinduism denotes any religion or religions that are practiced by the multitude of people living in the land beyond the river Indus.

Dear Contractor, The theory which you described here definitely is based on some facts, but as per Persian language Hindu means black man, so the people coming from central Asia were calling these people Hindus. Infect Indian, pakis and bangaladeshis irrespective of their faith are basically Hindus. So, basically Hindu is not a follower of Hinduism and Hinduism is not a religion, all the gods and goddess described as per Indian history never described that we are blessing you a religion called Hinduism and you follow it neither they said being a hindu you have to do so so, as i understand Hindu word never mentioned in any religious books . The philosophy of Hinduism changes place to place and person to person and can be mould as suitable to a person society etc
Target on devlopment and see the gujrat roads how they are today. When a political leadr visits any village the road is made ready in fortnight. Everybody talk about I have done dev. at the time of election but after election leaders not seen just like horns from head of donkey( Gaddhe ke sar se singh )

yesterday I put that message too and nobody was interested in it dear.
We cant blame the politicians alone, the common man dont want to hear something like this. No suprise to survive one have to be corrupt in this world. If somebody honest and patriot comes ahead to serve the nation, the system will swallow him. Dont blame politicians, WE are responsible. Nobody will be interested to reply and discuss on this topic, rather people will prefer speaking lot about other religions and keying in scrap notes which are baseless to defame religion from net written by some crack heads.

If you won't like, don't think no one likes Modis attitude, you r not representative of Indian community. If no one likes how he elected and became CM of Gujarath, how he is getting tremendous repsonse from Gujarathis.Don't force your openion on others

Its a free country ( and fortunately much of India outside Gujarat is still free ) - so expressing an opinion is not forcing an opinion which is what fascists think.

I never meet anybody who says Modi is good only in Radiff forum I can see people keep writing for his favor.
If you guys have seen the movie Godfather -3 , the poignant statement was from Al Pacino. This was when he was trying to buy various banks and industry and was trying to become a legitimate businessman instead of a Mafia don. However - his attempts were sabotaged by all those mafiosos he dealt with earlier and a hostile press which will not let him forget the post." The more I try to move away , the more I get sucked back again ". Crime has a strange way to pull a person down - while you and followers try to move on and ignore it - others will keep reminding you of it and keep pulling you back in that finally give in to old habits. Like Don Corleone did. So development is dead , Sohrabuddin is alive. It took a statement by Sonia to take the mask off...brilliant.

They all will see it coming back. Sikh riots will always haunt the Congress. Lalu will always be reminded of fodder. Have you noticed why most PMs in India have a clean past image ? because that is the only way to get acceptance from everybody. Edward Kennedy could have been the President of US if he had not walked out of the accident in the bridge in Chappaquiddick on one dark winter night.
Mr Modi You should have courage to accept what you have said.Or say I have nothing to do with communal riots Please talk about peoples problems and try to help them.More than 40% people are living below poverty in our country. They want food and job not your communalism. Not only modi almost all politicians including the CPM,and congress are aslo eqully communal. Beware of these coward and selfish politicians
RE:Modi dont be an escapist
by Sharath Kumar on Dec 09, 2007 09:16 AM Permalink
Go and tell this to your great chief minister Karunanidhi who tries to find escape routes through rama setu, kaveri and malaysian tamils....
Let not the people of Gujrat think that they alone are privilaged to have elction or this regional election has any significant impact in Indian politics. Let them not think that their leader Mr. Modi or Mr. Sodi will go to Delhi in the near future. Let them not think that Gujral alone in India has made progress in last 5 years. Let them not think that suddely all non gujraties have started loving gujjus.
Some people who are talking about Gujrat in this rediff discussion are mainly got some payment for being pro to Mr. Modi or Sodi and remaing perticipents are killing their spared time. So be silent, vote silently and try to remove stigma on you that Gujjus are Kanjush Makhhi Chush. Elect a good leader. Jai Garvi Gujrat.
