India

India neither needs nuclear tests nor Indo-US nuclear deal. Solar, oceanic, wind energy is the future. Renewable, free of pollution and less expensive. No need to become dependent on other countires for your uranium needs needs. NSG can shove the uranium up theirs.
Solar energy is following the same path as computer chips. The cost is coming down very fast. Bye bye nuclear energy

Nuclear Tests!
by Biren Mukherjee on Dec 06, 2007 02:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How many nuclear bombs do we need to protect our country? I think one is enough. We have more than that. So who is dragging the leg here heedlessly? Only these politicians! They dont understand the long term benefit that India will be enjoying in near future if it goes through. Our villages will have the adequate power, bible to every houses, no pollution (as long as Chernobyl does not happen!), infrastructure will be well developed and so many positive things. Many developed countries in the world are nuclear with no official record of nuclear bombs, such as Canada, Japan, and Germany and so on. Are these countries living in a perspective of nuclear threats from others? They are developed and we will also if and only when we develop capabilities to utilize nuclear power which would indemnify the deficits generated due to the demands of civilization.

Should our politicians to decide everything
by Attatar Yena on Dec 06, 2007 02:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India needs this deal badly because

- India does not have enough stock pile of nuclear fuel to fully utilize its nuclear program ( experimental research and power generation).
- India does not have enough nuclear fuel to create more A bombs - which has a major implication for deterrance doctrine against China and Pakistan.
- If we dont do anything now ( read as augmenting our nuclear stockpile) we will be left behind as Pakis and China will substantailly increase theirs.
This nuclear deal will provide us with extra stock pile to generate energy while we free up our stock pile currently used for energy generation and divert it to making A bombs. This is the most important aspect of the deal - It helps us to make more A bombs.
Now whether we need to do further testing or not is certainly not a political decision to made by our esteemed and knowledgeable politicians. I would love to hear what our scientists have to say on teh need for further testing.

well sure India does not have enough but we can enrich thorium at laskdeep and kerala and then India has double as rest of world

and donot forget the uranium 238 mines in Bihar which is not a nuclear fuel but we can get out of that also after enriching them for which right now we lack the knowledge

Getting nuclear fuel out of Thoruim requires lot of reprocessing which could take decades and same is the case with other mines for uranium. Just look at what scientists say about this aspect of the deal and things will become more clear

Let us get this straight
by Attatar Yena on Dec 06, 2007 02:02 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The left is opposing this deal only on ideological grounds - the left is anti US. They are not opposing because the deal could harm India's long term interest.Their decision is not based on what is good or bad for India. So in short comies are selfish towards their ideology even at the cost of India's benefit.
The lalus and Pawars and other in the coalition are not with Manmohansingh because they do not have the guts to face an election now ( in case commies pull the govt down). These coalition partners are selfish too like commies- selfish and greedy for power. Certainly India's interests are not included in their decision making process ( I am neither saying nuclear deal is beneficial for India nor I am against it for the reason that I do not know exact implication of this deal - some of which would become clear only after it is and if it is implemented). I am more concerned about the decision making process of the coalition partners in UPA. None of them have India's interest in mind - though they are taking great pains to make it seem as if they have only India's interest on mind. As for BJP - their opinion and stand does not matter..

You are absolutely right Attatar Yena. This is our history and this what we we Indians doing for last 1000 years and this is what we are going to do for next 100 years. Just to grab power and rule for sometime by any MEANS.Vision and National concept are fancy things borrowed from west. Earlier it was Rajas & Sultans; now politician & thier Political parties. Ideology is just a differentiating brand element for them. The end goal is same, to grab and enjoy POWER for silly personal gains.

What is the point?
by Pokup on Dec 06, 2007 01:59 AM  Permalink

Besides all it does is

(i) Provide our sarkari scientists a phot-op to pose in rambo like combat gear
(ii) Create a huge media cry all the way from from Washington to Sydney.
(iii) Provide an opportunity to Pakistan to exceed India's total

In the end we are back to square one. I think instead of wasting money and putting up a stupid show India needs to focus on real issues such as infrastructure, poverty and corruption.

Besides having nukes these days is not that big of a deal. A lot of things can be simulated in the lab and one rarely needs full scale/blown tests.

Google collaborates with Nanosolar for making Solar energy a GROUND REALITY, And INDIA is still sleeping
by Bhupendra Singh on Dec 06, 2007 01:08 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why are we complicating the simple matter? You want to show and prove that u are Nuclear power. Accepted. What next? Tell me just one point: you want government to continue with Nuclear energy, coal and fossil fuel OR WANT TO COME UP WITH SOLAR, WIND AND BIOMASS energy? You want to kill the humanity or save it by adopting green energy? Remember, if we don't adopt renewable sources of energy now, our children will never forgive us. For our kind information. Google has collaborated with Nanosolar for implemenmting the idea of Solar power and making it a ground reality. So are we progressive people or the one who will think of Solar and wind energy in 2040? Indians, Be OPTIMISTIC and show the mirror to the whole world.

So, what exactly are you suggesting India do? Be optimistic? or ape google?

So, lets see... who in India is against renewable sources of energy? and what does that have to do with the nuclear deal which is also another "immediate" way of giving this nation some of the much required energy, without additional r&d, without any investment (read money)? why should a nation that is trying to break into a nuclear league where new developments and new research in that field can be accesssible to it to serve its energy needs be run down by its own people as being anything but optimistic?

so what happens if we dont sign the deal and a new development is made, say in France, a way to harness the nuclear power forever and ever? will you then also subscribe to go the solar way? Nobody is suggesting that we should ignore solar power, wind power or the "going green" mantra. That is a seperate issue which also needs to be addressed but not tied together with a nuclear deal. Its easy to sit in California and make these statements after reading the google stock ticker but that has nothing to do with this, my friend. We are talking about a non-profit corporation called India and comparing it to Google...? Well.. almost a non-profit, if you ignore the corrupt 'netas'...

So, yes, we will be optimistic sir.

Manmohan Singh told lie in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha
by antiCongress antiBJP on Dec 05, 2007 04:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Manmohan Singh told lie in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha

1. Firstly he said Indo-Nuclear deal is a revolution for India.
2. Then said whole Parliament is with me and will make a consensus.
3. Then said if the Left rejects it, it can take back their support.
4. In this situation, he said entire UPA is with me.
5. After the Nuclear Panel formation, when discussion made, Laloo, Pawar, Paswan, Karunanidhi like leaders are also left.
6. When he met BJP leaders, he has a little bit hope, he can pass it in the parliament with voting.
7. After people knowing the deal through the channels, Tehelka exclusive on Gujarat riot, he rejected the voting in Parliament.
8. At last BJP was also against, when discussed Nuclear bill in Parliament.
9. The bitter truth (he never told others -- I think it is also a lie) is that he does not have support of main Congress leaders also.
