Hinduism is not a religion bottled in these Mutts -let it be the Udupi temple, Pejawar muth or Kanchi mutt. Neither these pandits or sanyasins are the caretakers or defenders of Hindus/Hinduism. Particularly during last decade they are getting in to too much of politics which itself is a deviation from the principles of these Mutts. Hinduism is an individual's choice of selecting a way of life. Let us understand that first.

Hay Chanakya...what u were doing at the time of contravesies of christianity at Tirupati??? Did u take care of hinduism that time??? Its been defended by these Mutts...Hinduism is an individual's choice of selecting a way of life. So u will not be able to recognise the caretaking by them.

Dear Mr. Aravind...Hindus in general are opportunits when it comes to Hinduism and care taking. There is always an element of vested interests in Hindu religious mutts/organisations though they preach they are the caretakers of Hinduism. When compared to other religions, I have not seen a single incident where Hindus came together to defend themselves/Hinduisam, even when Lord Ram's existence was questioned. We always debate in our own customs, rituals, practice, etc. individualy and colelctively. We always take two sides when it comes to Guruvayoor temple, Tirupati Temple, Udupi Temple or even for that matter Ayodhya temple. We have never allowed these Mutts, temples freedom of adhering to the principles, cutoms, rules and regulations set by them. When we are not supporting them, why should we interfere in their activities?
These ancient and baseless beliefs seems to have no end... What if someone cross the sea.. Sea is nothing but a large river... If someone can cross the river..why not sea???We still live in dark ages!!!!!!!!!!!

Ashok, I am agree with u that this is baseless belief, but my friend, religion is itself based on some belief which may be baseless in someone's perception and strong in others'perception. Well, as far as this temple goes, if they have some rules and customs, these should be followed strictly. We cann't dictate modern thoughts on customs and rules of temples! Try and understand this simple rule without any bias and outside impression.

hi Satyendra ji...that is what I was also making a point - If the MUTTS are established by particular individuals to follow certain customs and rituals, they also have formulated certain rules and regulations to be followed. It is up to them to decide what is right and what is wrong in so far as it does not effect the general Hindu public at large. In this case, how does it affect our life? it is their Mutt and the Mutts followers...let them deal with it appropriately. Whether he becomes the chief or not, why should we interfere in that. I took the same stand, when it happened to Kanchi Mutt. It is only a pity that Hindus/Hinduism is always at the receiving end, but still survives all the odds.

See, it is not for us people that they are laying these ground rules, it is only people who perform the poojas in the temples, that they are making prohibitions. I dont think they are wrong in laying down basic guidelines for people who do the poojas within the temples. These guidelines are made at every math and we should/are not competent enough to make comments whether they are wrong or right.

Your fundamentals are wrong. Seas and Rivers are different. Check the definitions. There are many differences. River has fresh water. Sea has salt water. I can't elaborate rest of the differences to you now. You do it on your own.

you know Mr. Nair, it is not only that they believe in crossing the sea as a sacrilege - they are also not supposed to travel by air...means they should not raise above the earth... Someof them still continue to practice - others deviate a little, this one deviated further.. But, Mr. Nair, would it anyway affecting our life...they are free to do what they want like any one of us...right?

may be in Dubai or UAE because KHAJUR in large quantities are produced there and that may be the reason of naming the templed you mentioned as KHAJURAWO?
i dont know where this kind of controvercies started, every one trying at least Hinduism to stay , if this is the way mutts started fighting then a lot of devotees loose interest
everyone is after position..i thot sanyasis were supposed to renunciate this..but modern aged sanyasis dont...btw..who can stop anyone from worshipping GOD ?
This is classic example of politicising. These seers are no less than Gowdas. Instead of quarelling amongst them to take control (and there by money honey) let them think something to do for the downtrodden of the society.

Boss, don't talk about things that are beyond your comprehension. There is no money aspect involved in this in any way. I happen to know some of the people involved in this entire episode. Stop being so cynical.

Te controvery once occured in a Kerala temple also. In the Sree Vallabha Temple of Thiruvalla, eminent Poet and Retired Professor Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri was denied priest ship only because he had crossed the oceans (He too visited foreign countries). Though he was ready to do "Prayashchitha" for this, he was not allowed to perform Poojas in the temple.
