Indian scientist!!
by on Aug 31, 2007 06:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why cant we import technology that will help us to generate nuclear power from Thorium and not from Uranium? As we have huge thorium reserve and will not have to rely on any country for its supply.

For generating N-power from thorium we are the leader and we dont need to import any technolgy. We need some more Uranium, as it act as a booster to make non-fissile thorium to fissile U-233 in a reactor. Reactor design for this purpose is ready and prototype is being used at Kalpakkam.

Good quality of research!!!
by on Aug 31, 2007 06:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We can But who wants agood research in India? All best talent from IITs are landing up in US. Who is doing research in India? The students who have not landed up with a software job or somehow couldn't make it in US.
We need to change this system so that our best talent stays here. Yes salary of resech scholars need to be increased.Capitalist like Dr. Manmohan Singh doesn't know that?? I think he too also doesn't want that like all our previous ministers. Rs 12000 per month for the reseachers is simply not enough for good research work when companys are offerong in lacs.

INDO US CIVIL NUCLEAR DEAL WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO THE US TO ESTABLISH ITS FOOTHOLD ON INDIAN ECONOMY!
by unni pillai on Aug 31, 2007 06:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is indeed a virtual u-turn of the traditional Nehruvian non-alignment concept. The new generation congressmen led by Sonia Gandhi has abandoned the basic tenets of Indian nationalism. Manmohan Singh in his speech has emphasised the promotion of nuclear economics. It is for whose benefit and who will have an upper hand in accomplishing the trade practice. It is a truth that India is a junior partner while competing with the US in many areas including nuclear economics. We should endeavour to align with third world and developing / under developed nations to protect the political and economic freedom of Indians to avoid mortgage of Indian interest and soverignity to American global interest. It is more than clear that the American way of invasion and aggression in many recent incidents like Iraq, Afghanistan etc. Indian leaders of UPA and Congress must realise a fact that most of them will not be alive for 45 years during the tenure of the Nuclear deal mooted to be signed. I strongly suggest that India should not proceed further to operationalise the treaty detrimental to the Indian nation as a whole, politically, economically, culturally etc.

Hello Unni pillai. there no cold war going on anymore. And there is nothing called non-alignment nations nowadays. Too bad your Soviet Union colasped since then so called "Non alignment" nations also disappeared. You want India to look like Cuba, Vietnam and North korea? Oh When you say recent aggression that id provoked by Sept11th dont go there plz. Talk to your country men from Kashmir(hindus).Mr. Pillai finaly look at the condition of Kerala. Why young women and men of your state going out of state looking for jobs in gulf countries? Do you have any good industry in Kerala to speak of? why? All you know is how to strike and bring down the business. Nobody want to invest in Kerala why is that? Look at Chennai,Banglore and AP. Why Keral is lagging behind? Answer is very simple your kind of thinking COMMUNIAM.It is not gonna create any job or opportunities for the people of Kerala.Shame on you Mr. Pillai. Joining US,Australia,Japan and EU bring opportunities and better living condition to our nation and put India in a far better postion in the world arena.

Why can't we build a good solar cooker?
by on Aug 31, 2007 05:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In India is country with plenty of sunshine. yet we dont use solar cooker. It is more or less an item of the museum. Interestingly EU nations are planning for 4% of solar power of their gross energy consumption by 2010. What are we doing?

i think you got it totally wrong! nuclear fuel Uranium is going to gest exhausted within next 45-55 years. The future lies in Renewable energy!!! To use that you need good scientists. Unfortunately our good scientists are in US or Europe.
The rest who have not good enough for a software job is in research. In our most coveted institute like IISC Bangalore, researcher gets Rs 12000 per month. With this salary do you expect he will come out with an invention.

We need to invest in renewable energy but that is possible only with change in mind set. Current technologies are not promising to solve our energy needs. However, i do not think salary structure alone will produce scientists .

better than your China and Russia. I rather join with a Democratic, and free nation. At least we have something in common "Natural allies" Indian economy laged behind cuz of our close friendship with the old "Soviet Union". China attacked India in 1962. You want those guys as your driver . Feel free. Would you like to live under their system of goverment? Get a life.

Lot of personal attacks lol. Has anybody guts to provide arguements instead of bashing? I am not in favor of the deal in its present form. As it seems to me too much impeding. Hyde Act will be enacted and Bush cant give gurantee over it. With hostile neighbours such as China and Pak we cant afford to clost the doors of N-weapon develpment program too. Moreover govt is far from revealing economic viability of the Nuclear power generation. US govt report says its not a cheap power ( however you may term it clean in regard to CO2 emission but its highly dangerous due to radioactivity). So why PM wants to ride a bus, which really doesnt go where we want or even if it goes, it will charge more money than other probable options.
