Once we sign the deal, US can force us to move along with them
by opinion on Aug 31, 2007 12:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

US in a way forced UK into the Iraq war. Once we sign the nuclear deal, I fear they will force India also to ally with US in their attacks against countries like Iran. and at that point of time, we cannot withdraw from the deal since we might have invested billions for the energy plants.

Yes, that is the history of UK. They are in American's trap on Iraq. US tries to trap India on Iran.

do NOT forget that america/european union/japan/taiwan/korea are the largest investors in the republic of india (not chiona & russia), this can be reversed anytime. you see the squeeze that was put on cuba, sudan, iraq, north korea and now on iran ?

being closer with america/europe after 1990 was much more useful as the economy grew by 9% and poverty level declined to 26%, unlike the nehruvian/soviet alliance growth rate of 1.2% and poverty level of 50%.

it would be very unfortunate if domestic political wranglings and tussles (without a clue as to how the international economy works), sent the economy spiralling downward into the dumps.

CANT AFFOR DTO MISS NUCLEAR RENAISSANCE
by R Swaminathan on Aug 31, 2007 12:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dr manmohan singh deserves our wholehearted support in his endeavour to take our country to greater heights.the left should stop blocking his efforts and refrain from resisting the deal.we are surrounded by china and pakistan who are toghther out to detroy us.we need the U.S.and the entire western world to counter the threat.the leftists should prove their commitment to patriotisms & preserving our sovereignty by asking china to vacate our territory in ladakh and stop claiming Arunachal Pradesh.their prsent stance only strenghtens all anti national forces

Rightly said. This puppet PM Woman Mohan Singh is misleading the country on this issue since beginning. He told many lies in parliament and each time it was contradcted by USA. Now it has become clear that we will be directed (not guided) by Hyde Act, i.e. home laws of USA. This is why we are opposing the present form of this aggreement. It needs renegotiation. If USA does not agree to renegotiate, let them go to hell.

No need to worry...

I think CPM will give a total support
to Cong govt. for the 123 deal but from the backdoor , and may be Cong and CPM are in round table meeting
to get the thing done without any clear discussion on the deal.

But some one need to clear why discussions not allowed re. 123 deal clearly in the parliament.

USA can sign a major deal without a discussion in the senate???????????

Explain the deal
by sg sg on Aug 31, 2007 11:53 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I to believe the nuclear energy is a must for India but the PM needs to explain to the nation at what cost he is signing the deal. There are eminent scientist who are opposed and for good reason. So why doesnt the PM do some talking rather than sulking about people questoning his intergraty. Its not about him but the nation.

No scientist (forget eminent) is opposing th deal! If u got one, point out. The Atomic Energy Commission chairman i the one who aproved and signed it. All scientists of BARC have come in support of the deal!

So dont talk about scientists. I dont know whether somebody in BJP is eminent scientist. If so there is chance!

i'm not supporter of anti n-deal us will transfer tecnology and reactors. but wats da white elephant's food provision. I heard world's 40% of uranium reserve in ausralia,15% Canada & 45% is in rest of the world. aussie president assured supply of fuel under some conditions but current aussie political senario Mr.howard loosing his popularity & mr. Rudd is front runner in pre poll survy. and he made his stand as unless india sign NPT there is no fuel for india. if other nsg grroups followed his line then wats the future of our nuclear reactors??

We are not signing any deal with Howard. The agreement is with Aus, not the party who rule Aus. So is case with India. For domestic political reasons, like BJPs case in India, they will do such things. But it is only untill they get power (if they). For instance BJP themselves showed it in the past. They were fierce oponents of the economic reforms while in opposition, always demanding swadeshi. But after getting powwer knowbody really knows what happened to their swadeshi.

The foreign policy is there to continue. Also we are living in a new world. To behave irresponsibly, either they should be North Korea or Pakistan.

People are so frustrated with UPA governemnt's anti people policy. BJP leaders have no worry about it. They worry about huge profit on 123 agreement after 2009 Elections.
