Congress has played politics in it too
by Jitesh Kumar Agrawal on Aug 30, 2007 03:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Congress tried to play politics in this too and that has backfired on them now. This deal was started during the NDA Govt. term so does anyone know why BJP is opposing it now?????

Its because Congress did not think it to be necessary to discuss the provisions of the deal in the Parliament with an idea of putting it before all that this deal has been done by Congress for the benefit of all. PM even went to the extend of defending this by saying that it was a bilateral agreement between 2 Govt. and Parliament need not be given details before the deal and when its done it can be informed to the Parliament. Congress thought that since it was started by NDA, they would not oppose it and they will have a cake walk getting it passed in the parliament and now it has backfired on them badly.

The details of agreement since its discussion whatever people came to know of was through press briefings that US had to give to its people back there in US....Indian Govt. was never transperent on the whole deal. Its only when it was signed that it came into public domain for which the PM now begs that it has been signed and sealed and cannot be renegotiated...and if we go back on the agreement, India would loose face Internationally.

Now its for you all to decide what Congress did was it right....though the deal is very important to every Indian National, the question is whether the conduct of Congress was correct????

hmm.. thats debatable.. its for the first time that the complete text of an international agreement has been released to the public even before it is signed.
Thanks to that, now we know its a not so good deal.

No...you are wrong the agreement has been released in public domain "ONLY AFTER IT HAS BEEN SIGNED" and now it needs parliaments approval.

I am not saying its a bad deal...but the way it has been done is very very bad.

Do you know that there was 22 rounds of discussion between Jaswant Singh and Stross Tarlbott without even 22 words being discussed in parliament. As far as current govt is concerned, this deals has been discussed on four occassion in parliament. The exact text may not be discussed, but the main theme has been discussed very thoroughly. So get ur facts right. BJP had opposed computerisation, they had opposed all the economic reforms during Narmisham Rao govt which they folllowed during their govt and congress supported them. So, if u want to abuse congress, abuse them but do it with right facts.

i donot able to understand why not the parliament approve any deal related to the international deal ?while the sovereignty of the nation lies in the hands of parliament. Is this democracy?

In parlimentry form of Government Cabinet has the powers to sign any deal. It can be debated in the parliament but there is no provision of approval. If any one feels that it is against national interest, No confidence motion can be brought against the govt. So there is no problem with democracy.
