message to rediff
by gem mina on Aug 29, 2007 04:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I wonder if all the messages sent by these learned people go to the concerned persons. This would be a futile exercise if messages are only meant for the message board. Some of the suggestions made are worth considering

The ruling UPA and Left parties are expected to meet tomorrow to take a final decision on evolving a mechanism to take care of the concerns of the allies providing outside support over the Indo-US nuclear deal.

nuke deal
by deepak kapoor on Aug 29, 2007 04:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If we recall PVR govt when all mordernisation started and Indian market was thrown open by our beloved Sardar Manmohan Singhji, then too there were very few takers for delicencing the Industries even in Congress what to talk of the Communists. Today everyone including the Communists enjoying the fruits swon by our PM. This infact shows the shallowness of most of our MP's.
They are the one who call BJP the communal but I say by heart that the Communists are the most communinal and anti national in all their activities from the day of their formation.
LET CONGRESS CALL FOR MIDTERM ELECTION AND CPI/CPM WOULD HARDLY BE ALE TO RETAIN THEIR DEPOSITS.
COME ON CONGRESS (MINUS SONIA) WE ARE WITH YOU.

One should not underestimate the Voters whether educated or uneducated. Even so called educated r white collered criminals and so called uneducated are well behaved and with lot of common sense and intelligence, think about ur granny, or some other elderly whi was not so educated but could still lot of wisdom to u. So rethink about waht u have written above.

The deal will produce 7% of our energy requirement for the next 40 years, provided India has a foreign policy congruent to US, halt further development of nuclear arsenal, and supports US in isolating new nuclear states(read Iran). its as simple as that... You don't have to be a nuclear scientist to understand this.
If this is acceptable, everything is fine.
The complete text of the 123 agreement, the Hyde act and the nuclear deal with china is available here.

On what bass are you saying 7%? Why can't it rise further than that especially considering the fact that HydroCarbons reserves are dwindling around the world.. Why is Russia interested in Nuclear Energy despite having large oil reserves.

And lastly did you consider the fact the states will be under pressure for generating large carbon di-oxide?

@ Rohit
Murphy's laws
1. If anything can go wrong, it will.
2. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong.
Corollary: If there is a worse time for something to go wrong, it will happen then.
3. If anything just cannot go wrong, it will anyway.
4. If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which something can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop.
5. Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse.
6. If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
7. Nature always sides with the hidden flaw.

12% is an optimistic estimate and 7% a conservative( sensible?) estimate. No more

123-Deal, the road to subordination in geo-politics
by Chakravarthy Muralidhar on Aug 29, 2007 04:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The path to greatness, whether for an individual or a nation,is always strewn with obstacles and hazards. The individual (or the nation) that works hard,diligently,intelligently,self-reliantly and selflessly alone succeeds and is crowned with glory, fame without asking for it!The whole community/ entire world look upon such individuals/nations for inspiration and willingly accepts their leadeship. That is what India learnt in these 33 years of nuke isolation. For,Indian scientists & engineers worked hard, relentlessly in the face of jeers, insults, taunts and discouragement from US & Europe when she embarked upon Fast Breeder tech.Today India is 3 decades ahead of US in this cutting edge application in civil nuke tech.Yet,inconsolably sadly, the PM and his underlings want to give away all that leadership by signing a deal in which India is the "receiver state" and US and even small insignificant countries like Denmark,Hollant,Australia,Norway are all technology "givers".That is the essence of going to IAEA and NSG to seek their approval of 123-Deal in which India and US have explicitly the roles of "Receiver" and "Giver" respectively.

Real greatness for India lies in foregoing this soft option and strive on on the lonely path towards total independence and achieve the status of a tech giant and pioneer by developing the Thorium cycle at least 2 decades ahead of original plan by building a chain of 4-5 1500-2000 MW FBRs instead of sticking to "no risk to my backseat" approach.

good info and thoughts ...but the prob is that many influential persons in india don't like India to be self-reliant ...and many of them (specially NRIs) hav vested interests in this deal

Dear Door Drishti
I am an NRI. I want India to be self reliant as much as people in India want. Pls do not generalise. I left India 8 yrs back and in these 8 yrs, image of India has dramatically changed. We are considered a great nation now. I am extremely proud of this newly acquired status of my country.

N Deal
by arungopal agarwal on Aug 29, 2007 04:28 PM  Permalink

All politicians are bothered for their vote bank, national and other issues are secondary to them. Our vote bank is based on number game arithmatic, and this arithmatic depends on the number of divisions, one can make in the socieity. As such to expect from the voters some radical change in the political scene, is a very high optimism, till our constitution bans all divisive forces to fight election.
