As of now, I think the population of China is not excess compared to India. Hence, 4 No. per 100 and 3 Nos. per 100 ratio is correct and obviously China should come next to India. I hope you understand.

LETS DO SOME MATHS

Chinas' population on Aug. 29th, 2007: 1,323,146,723, so total no. of arms China has 39694401.7 (3 arms per 100)

Indian population as of Aug. 29th, 2007: 1,132,799,287... then no. of firearms in India would be 45311971.5 (4 arms per 100)!!

I agree with you Kailash that media has gone very irresponsible these days but lets do some maths before criticizing everyone...

Fire arms in India
by Raj Khalid on Aug 30, 2007 09:28 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This study is rubbish. It is impossible to own a fire-arm in India unless you are a crook and criminal, or well connected or a sprtsperson. Import of fire arms has been banned since 1986 so it is impossible for a law aiding citizen who has a license to get a good fire arm. Many of the fire arms are obselete bores, muzzle loaders used for crop protection and incapable of doing much harm. the firearms held by Americans and other nations are modern, some automatic which can be easily used for violence. So this study is crap. In fact I think this is done by people within Governments who would like to restrict use of fireamrs by honest citizens so the nation can be held ransom by crooked politicians and their henchmen.

Civilians with firearms: India ranks 2nd in world
by Prabhudas Kamath on Aug 30, 2007 09:24 AM  Permalink

Guys, do not get mislead! It is not that bad as it sounds. Carefully, look at these para in the article, you would understand which society is more dangerous. Infact th figures basicall represent the Upper class or people with Criminal background.

With an estimated 46 million firearms outside law-enforcement agencies and the military, India has the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal. But this represents just four guns per 100 people.

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world. China, third with 40 million privately held guns, has 3 firearms per 100 people. Pakistan has 12 firearms per 100 people, while Iran has five.

am not at all being sarcastic.. if you go over the past you'll see that Indian politicians are in a habit of twisting the facts and misrepresenting the data for their own sake. I am just waiting for a report on rediff with a headline "Lalu says India Shining - 2'nd in the arms race"

When india's non-millitary firearm ratio would be 100 out of 100, then India will definitely shine, because US having 90 out of 100 is in the top and shining very brightly. It is simple.

Exactly so, to see the difference:

Average of 4 Indians every 100 holds a gun, but still it is second in the list due to its huge population.

Whereas in Pakistan where 12 out of every 100 holds a gun, is far below in the list.
