Actually the fuel used in Nuclear reactors is highly radioactive before and after use. Its could kill a few zillion people if even small quantities leak out into your natural water sources like river, dams etc.
In case of India the track record of govt. as well as private companies in terms of disposal of waste matter has been really bad.
You dont want to get up one day and find your hair and all other body organs just falling off do you ?

a complete nuisance
by sugata chatterjee on Aug 24, 2007 10:26 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

the types of medha patkar, mamata banerjee are complete nuisance to we, the indians, from all perspectives. they lack knowledge in fundamentals of science and technology. they may not hesitate in saying cowdung generated in this country is very much eco-friendly and biodegradable energy source giving energy equivalent to that obtainable from nuclear power stations and constitution amendment is required for a debate on this. They should straight be sent to nursery classes and constitution should be amended that any crap coming from these illiterate species belonging to ngos supported by funds from the United Nations channels are summarily sent to the trash can.

This can happen only in India!
by Ravi Dixit on Aug 24, 2007 10:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

They are full of praise for the Commies while asking for a Democratic debate! What hypocrisy!!!
And what do they mean by "We, in India, have inherited rich renewable sources of energy, which are environmentally benign and abundantly available. The solar, wind, and ocean waves along with human power need to be fully tapped and put to use with people's control."
How can "human power" be used to generate electricity?!! Oh btw this is not China...human are not used as fodder to generate power!
Basically a crappy piece of work they need to get some better writers to write for them...atrocious really!

India is like the young girl getting in her seventeens who says, " Mom I really like that guy, he really cares for me. I want to sleep with him" and CPM like parents is saying, "he just wants to sleep with you and that is why he cares for you.He has no intentions to take care for you or be with you".

and you ask climax, well i don't know I picked it from a US tv serial in which the elder sister is trying to prevent her younger sister from making the mistake till she finds a suitable guy. The girl does not listen to her elder sister, and then the elder sister's brother tells the younger sister the story who he got a girl into the bed and the moment THE ACT was over he was gone like wind.

Well, but am not against India going for the deal, at least there will be s/e/x. Later parents will rue the fact that their girl was taken advantage of but what the hell who cares.

Alternate energy not at the cost of nuclear energy
by Madhu Kaushik on Aug 24, 2007 10:15 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Alternate sources of energy are fine but they alone cannot meet the demands of a rising India. Alternate energy cannot be at the cost of nuclear energy - at least till the time we discover how to generate a large amount of energy with these sources.

Abundant source of renewable energy inherited??????
by Peaceful Ocean on Aug 24, 2007 10:08 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Medha Patkar and Co. is at it again.

Lets list the source of energies at the moment-

Hydro-Silted dams in 20/30 yrs, submergence of villages-Field day for NGOs.
Coal- Green house effect-depleting hydrocarbon source-same with LNG/Oil etc.
Wood- Depletion of forest.Same with bio diesel.
Solar, wind, tidal- Waiting for the technological breakthrough-billin $ away.
So Medha Patkar and co-Are you waiting for cold fusion or that Tamil chap, couple of years ago who was producing petroleum from boiling some wild plants.
I dont think any cogent answer will be available from these stupid loud mouths who are the darling of leftist intellectuals and all other assrted asses.
Lets ask them the secret source of abundant renewable energy source which we have inherited.

the truth....
by nitin gupta on Aug 24, 2007 09:59 AM  Permalink

Medha patkar just wants to grab media publicity by opposing any move by any govt which has got any amount of controversy associated with it... all drastic measures have always got some people at the recieving end but we should be concered with india as a whole and our future..

she is not concerned for and neither has the vision of what is good for the indian people in the present or the future...

rediff giving her a stage is unfortunate and only those with a balanced and unbiased opinions on matters of public concern should be allowed to write on these forums..

will she ever give any constructive opinion on what she thinks will be the source of energy for india 30-40 yrs down the road? she will not be there so it is non of her concerns I think..

I do agree with Medha etc
by gautam m on Aug 24, 2007 09:57 AM  Permalink

The crux of many national problems is that on national issues pub rep act in the parliament instead of going back to people for fresh referendum. Had we taken it before partition of India, on issues of Kashmir's independence, the present Nuclear deal and last but not the least whether Marx's theory worshipped as bible by the Indian communists are in fact out dated failing to keep its date with time ....And finally on cast reservations...And lastly...whether those Muslims who take oath not to chant our national anthem are to be put behind jails...all these issues need urgent public referendum.

Because these politicans in love of popwer make so many volte faces on accout of keeping to power and favoring the vested interests.

I do agree on that account only.

Mrs Medha, first you stop receving funds from West.
by baduwa on Aug 24, 2007 09:54 AM  Permalink

Mrs. Medha is speaking against capitalism, when it has been identified that her NBA is receiving money from capitalist West. The authors are writing false information. It has been proved without any double that the Wind, Solar and Ocean energy can't be a main source of energy, except for standby. So please don't write rubbish without knowing it. The idea of amendment for public debate is OK. But that should be practical. When caste based reservations and Minority appeasements are ways practiced to get vote, how can you expect the elected representatives to think in the national context.
