well i too like this festival, and enjoy it, i m from hyderabad, beside my home there is big temple, when we were in school, we used to watch late night GANAPATI shows in MANDIR,
but one thing i don't like Ganesh Viserjan in neat water, we have HUSSAIN SAGAR in heart of the city, after viserjen, all water get dirty, so i request people of INDIA, save water and save pollution, get different idea for ganesh Viserjan,
Forget the size or fervour; it is a true fact that Ganesh Utsav remains the most coveted & widely celebrated Festival. Inspite of being a Mumbaite where people are crazed by the (Frivolous) Halo of Dandiya, personally, my heart longs every year to hear the exhilarating stanzas of A Ganesh Aarti.

MR. Raj if cant do that then i might well suggest u to find a place near job so that u dont have to travel. if u cant do that then u can pack ur bags and leave mumbai and find some other place

Lokamanya BaL Gangadhar TiLak (Pls pronounce T from TATA and not from tisra kaun) started this festival to unify Hindusthani's against Britishers. This was the first time when "ShriGanesh Utsav" went public but it was already being celebrated in the houses of Maharashtra which is called as "Gauri-GaNapati" festival. Now a days all festivals have become center of enjoyment and the main aim has been lost. People having lots of money can celebrte daily while those striving can not even think of it. As Mr.Narayan Murthy righly said, present generation does not have any idols or mentors like Lokamanya TiLak. It is just fun/enjoyment and materialistic life. So have fun but don't forget the aim of Lokamanya.
Iam from Kerala and a muslim. I have seen the festivities of mumbai and pune. Kerala also has celebrate vinayaka chathurti in gaity. kottarakara ganapathi and pazhavangadi ganapathi are famous and heard that the devotees prayers are heard.

So nice Abdul. Can u give some more info on Ganpati Festival in Kerala? It will be enlightening to know how people hail Ganpati everywhere. Because Ganpati is not the Preserve of a Particular Class/ Caste/ Province nor is he a God. Well, I am not a Hot - Shot Intellectual but what I do know is that he is an Ideal who represents Vidya (Knowledge), Buddhi (Intellect), Pradnya (Potential). There is a post here which says he is a Funny Character. That will be most degrading for an Individual who represents all the 18 Vidyas (Knowledge) & 64 Kalas (Arts). His Elephant - Head is not been placed for Fun but Symbolises vast Intellect (like an Elephant). O Ganpati, Bless All Your Devotees Equally - Big Or Small, Rich Or Poor, Privileged Or Deprived...

Pune is the first city in India where Ganpati Festival is celebrated with the highest pomp and show , where people from all over ther world come. The Mandal decorations are the best even compared to Mumbai where there are huge Ganpati idols. There are more than 5000 Ganpati mandals in Pune and 5 main "Manache Ganpati". The immersion procession continues for more than 40 hours and the prominent Ganpatis are Dagdusheth, Mandai, Kasba, Natu Ganpati, and manu more. GANPATI BAPPA MORAYA MANGAL MURTI MORAYA.

I think its Chennai where Ganesh festival is celebrated with lot of enthuasism. U travel to Chennai during this festival, and the degree of enthuasism is such that u will feel as if you are in some part of Maharashtra.
