Get same deal as US-China or No deal
by apjunkmail on Oct 29, 2007 10:06 PM  Permalink

India SHOULD want the same terms as the US-

China nuclear agreement even if it

takes significantly longer to

negotiate.
India cannot agree to Fissile Material

Cutoff Treaty objectives which is part

of NSG draft as it is a back door to

cap and roll back of Indian Nuke

weapons. Without Fissile Material

nukes weapons cannot be mantained or

when Fissile Material degradation in

the weapons takes place they cannot be

refreshed in future. Example like you have a car with half tank of petrol and you are cut off from ever puting more fuel. When you run out of that half tank thats it.

who exactly are these Left ?
by Gumpy on Aug 21, 2007 12:10 PM  Permalink

Friends, who are these left that are opposing the Nuke deal - lets get to some history about them..
1. These left are the same people who had got several Indian freedom fighter arrested during World War 2, 1945-46, at Soviet Russia's instance.

2. these Left are the very same people who has taken China's side when 1962 Indo-Chinese war broke out. They said it was India who wrongly attacked India, and even was raising money for Chinese soldiers relief fund!

3. Today they want to stop the Nuke deal the the instance of China's Communist party.

Can we Indians trust these very same Left with India's national interest ? Think yourself after carefully going thru history.

Indo US Nuclear cooperation
by Atis Mitra on Aug 19, 2007 09:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is not at all surprising to see the government%u2019s eagerness to join US bandwagon in strategic areas of atomic energy, defence collaborations etc. .Being closely associated with the present scenario it is observed that the close relatives of all senior people in sensitive departments of the governmentof India in responsible positions are either settled or in the process of looking for suitable ways to settle in USA.This is the reason of the eagerness in the officialdom in administrative departments of central government, the department of Atomic energy & defence forces to lend their eager support to see that somjehow India be a tail wagging country of USA. Let us not forget that our PM%u2019s daughters are also settled in USA. It is very well known that while the Russian weaponry are better than USA offered ones but the possibility of settlement of near and dear ones of the responsible senior officials of government in Russia is virtually non existent. This is the reason that the PM is forced to lie in Parliament in stating that the nuclear cooperation with USA is not linked to our defence related atomic programmes. It is a slur on the nation to have such a PM.

You Can't Run very far from IAEA
by asokan a on Aug 19, 2007 09:22 PM  Permalink

If we are adamant with false perception on nuclear issues, we shall be left without friends. Why do the opponents insist on nuclear testing rights? It is childish thinking for asking the US or others the right to test nuclear arms. Nobody can stop us if the need arises for nuclear arming as we have already demonstrated. The need of the hour is India should strive for nuke free world. We should not distance from US when they come close to us. We are facing energy crisis. Let us forget our petty politics. This is time to join forces to demand the best from US. Opportunity won't knock at our convenience.

Dog and Pony show?
by S on Aug 19, 2007 08:57 PM  Permalink

Is this a dog and pony show going? I mean, is all the fight arranged between them to make the case for some ratification or some changes in the scope of the agreement? after all, in USA also the agreement will be facing severe hostility in the house. So what's wrong with a little drama on this side? If this has not been the case...then why doen't Left withdraw support and why Pranob Mukherjee is acting as Karat's chamcha??

Symbolism Vs Substance
by imran patel on Aug 19, 2007 08:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Fellow Countrymen,
It is time for us to take a serious look at the state of our Nation. Let focus on the 3 major political blocks, what they stand for and what have they contributed in recent times.

1.      Congress %u2013 It is a Neo-LEFT or Center %u2013 LEFT party. Portrays itself as a %u201CSecular%u201D party. Policies have been less productive if not outright disaster. It is a party that is used to being in power. As they say, %u201CPower corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely%u201D. The congress is filled with corruption and %u201CBabu-ism%u201D. The way it is structured, it is not suited to be a party that will bring about a drastic change. Example: It can have the driver%u2019s license computerized. But still you will pay Rs. 1000 as bribe.

2.      BJP/SS/VHP %u2013 Came to prominence as an alternative to the Congress. But symbolism took over substance. They soon realized that to stay in power, they have to follow in the footsteps of Congress. This is a %u201CNeo %u2013 Right%u201D or %u201CCenter %u2013 RIGHT%u201D option, but in symbolism ONLY. Nationalism is limited to Anti %u2013 Pakistan rhetoric. BJP has contributed towards alienating the Indian Muslims (Muslims are to be blamed as well). There is no Policy difference between the Congress and the BJP. Question to the common man, was there a change in your life when BJP was in power compared to the Congress? Example: It can have the driver%u2019s license computerized. You will still pay Rs. 1000 as bribe b

3.      LEFT %u2013 It symbolizes what a governing body should NOT be. Socialism/Communism is a failed economic policy. Looks great on paper, but opposite human tendencies. They have nothing to offer other than criticism. Example: It will never computerize the process. But you will pay Rs. 2000 as bribe because the government does not pay them well.

Now, what is Nationalism and what do I mean by Symbolism Vs Substance?
We have defined Nationalism as flag hoisting, national anthem, shouting slogans, supporting India in cricket matches, calling the nation as %u201CBharat Maata%u201D, etc.
These things are just symbols of Nationalism. There is no substance behind them.

We do not think once on our vote for our representatives. Based on party lines we blindly vote. We are comfortable with any kind of fraud, be it tax or income. We don%u2019t think once before offering bribe to a government official or taking bribe. We are always ready to destroy state property to emphasize our displeasure towards others. We are comfortable to spit or urinate in public places. This is the substance of Nationalism.

Till we identify this distinction and implement in our lives, we should not expect any change in the conduct of our elected representatives. We are so naïve that we will vote for a candidate just because he is from a certain party or makes some ridiculous promise we all know he will not fulfill. We need people in the government who realize that this is Public Service and the role of government is LIMITED. And we will find those people only after we correct our priorities.
