Nothing harmful if the successive Indian govt. make correct decision to meet energy needs through others ways apart from US
by vigneshwaraan radha on Aug 19, 2007 05:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Indo-Us nuclear deal does not have any clause which will cap our nuclear capablities and our reights to conduct a nuclear test. The nuclear power which has been
termed as a clean energy is the only way to saitsfy our growing need for energy. The Manmohan singhs government at the centre is well aware of this fact. That is why
the Indian government has entered into a Civilian Nuclear deal with US government which will ensure us with continuous supply of Nuclewar fuel for 40 to 60 years and
advanced nuclear technology. The Deal gives both government full rights to opt out of the deal at anytime with prior notification bbefore a year. There reasons for opting out of
the deal is immaterial.** So in the future years our dependency on the US governemnt will increase. So the US governments may pressure up India to line up with its
foreign policies threatening to cancel the deal. If the Nuclear Deal is cancelled , it may cause huge disturbances in the country with the lack of energy to meet the needs. This
may hamper the Economic growth of the country. Though we are not entering into an written agreement in the nuke deal of not to conduct a nuclear test, the US govt.
may cancel the deal in the case if we go for a nuclear test( though it is not as per the agreement), as it has the full rights to do so. So we will refrain from doing a nuclear test.

In short the Nuclear deal is in Interest of the Nation in terms of Energy security and Economic progress.
But I

ABSOLUTELY NOT
not having clause on nuke testing means USA is free to do whatever it wishes-- means it is even free to walk off the treaty which is horrible situtaion as our down industry will heavily depnd upon them. So its attempt to control India in some very tacit manner.

Foolish. Even without the agreement, USA is free to do whatever it wishes. So wuts the point? Why will 'our down[?] industry will heavily depnd upon them'?
And the most ironic and wierdest argument is that we fear one day the deal will break so let us not make it in the first place! Kaun se planet ke log hai..huh.
Since this now mainly a political issue, I think PM and Congress shud take the Left's bluff and let Govt. fall. They will probably stand a better chance than BJP and wipe out the Reds from political picture.

that is why said apart from making nuke deal with US deal the indain govt should clinch nuke deal deals with countries and see some others sources for nuclear fuel. so that our depedency on US will be reduced to a greater extent. stopping with deal and depending on US alone will be hramful to india.

vighneshwaran,
If we sign the deal our dependency on US will increase and not decrease. The US will have to provide nuclear fuel to India by itself or from any where else but India on its own cannot acquire fuel from anywhere else. Here we are trying to compare ourselves with China in terms of advanced technology and weapons but why do we forget that China has built all this on its own . I do not remember China signing such a horrible treaty with the US. Why cant we learn to do things independently. Agreed it may take longer time but we will have our own technology

123 agreement is not good for India - be wise and think deep
by manoo kaushal on Aug 19, 2007 05:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let us be wise and know that 123 agreement has nothing concrete in it for India .

Its virtually Hyde act wrapped up in rosy words.

Prime Minister might have been a fair economists but he totally failed in diplomacy.

he should not have shown haste and bargained hard to dispel fears about the deal. These fears are :-

1. America should not have any right to unilaterlly pull off from the treaty because after a few years Indian budisness worth billions of dollars would have depended on it.

2. Should have secured the right to test like China did .

3.IAEA should not have been given right to visit Indian reactors. As far as I think Chinese reactors are not visited by IAEA.

4. Our throrium reactor should have not been affaceted . As delay in urnaium reporcessing would delay it.

5. we should make it give and take agreement and talk from level of equals which Manmohan could not do. After all their multinationals will earn huge bucks from us why then we should act like paupers.

Manmohan showed total lack of leadership qualities. and Such weak rpime minister should not stay in office.

I have read whole deal 2 times and I know very well how the deal remains cleverly silent on very contentious issues. which would have been otherwise clearly stated.

Wishful thinking

"Unless the Congress-led UPA government is ready to put the nuclear deal on the backburner and suspend any talks for the remaining term of the government, the Left parties will not extend their all-important support."

This is crap. The whole thing is a drama. The Left will make noise but will let UPA through. Left is seasoned at coalition politics to miss out on opportunities. Suitcases will do the trick. So Mr. Author, dont dream of any withdrawal by left. The deal is going ahead smoothly. This is just a nod and wink strategy between congress and left.

US and nuclear deal
by akshay gupta on Aug 19, 2007 05:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Please pack off the communists; Mr Ychury and mr Karat on a red boat to Cuba and ask them to leave West Bengal and India alone. These commies are the last evil lot on the earth whose masters viz Russian and the chinese have abandoned them. They are making last ditch cheap publicity and trying to extort money from the government as well as US to fund their lousy lifestyle. These are the men who have kept west bengal poor and they are the ones who would want the rest of India to be poor too but fortunately we are aware of their evil designs.

Get lost your red commies. India does not need you despots who are a bi-product of Stalin.

LET US BE CLEAR......
by UmaShankar SathyaKumar on Aug 19, 2007 04:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the real NEW world, America need India and India need America.... In a multi-polar world, America has very few friends...countless enemies....It is necessary and in the best interest of Americans to work with Indians to be friends...

The US government debt grows by about $1.3 billion per day and has now crossed more than $13.2 trillion dollars. The US private household debt has now crossed more than $14.7 trillion and half of these debts have been incurred after 1998. The fact is that the expanding consumer debt drives the US economy. The US treasury receives about $1.3 trillion from taxes, the Indo-US nuclear deal is $25 billions and there are several sales by US to follow such as Boeing planes, F-16s, space technology..... The US now very desperately needs a growing partner and friendly country to make more money with depleting US economy. Also, a big voice to support its decisions from Asia on its foreign policies.

America is bankrupt. So, they need ASIAN money to buy their bread and butter by selling Nuke or whatsoever technology....

There is nothing wrong to get the nuke technology. If they try to screw India, screw them back like they have done to Germans in 1940-70's. USE AMERICA....

The lefts in Bengal made millions poor!! That%u2019s their big achievement to date..... Please.... NEVER VOTE TO LEFTS....

At least economic policies of Manmohan made millions of Indians to eat three meals a day.. I am one among them...

Jai Hind

My dear friend US has given us a perennial opponent like Pakistan and has armed it heavily. Here US talks of signing the nuke deal and there they supply 100 F18s to Pakistan. US is the biggest traitor and a cause of unhappiness in this world.

Unpragmatic left
by Indrajit Ghosh on Aug 19, 2007 04:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The left seems to have its own party odeological interest more in mind than the bettrment of nations future. They are playing in to the hands of the forces opposed to India's rise and taking a rightful place in the world forum. They are making anti Americanism a platform to ensure India remains perpetually at the mercy of other powers and they tom tom the stalling as their achievment in forcing the government of the day to be seen cosying upp to America and win brownie points with their electorate who are opposed to US dominance .
History will judge them as an entity who denied India a place in the sun.My request to the left leaders please do not jeopordise the future of India ,let it have peaceful rise in world affairs.

I 100% agree with Mr. Ghosh, what Left party leaders are thinking and what they wanted to prove to the indians. I think every Indian should have right to live in good enviornment rather than facing load sharing. if you go and visit the remote village in india you will find almost 12 to 20 hrs there is no electricity available, and i hope this is what Left wanted that all poor people should live in dark. I would like to request all Left party leaders try to understand the sitiuation, india is going to be a superpower in near future and dont become hurdels to that progress else the indians will throw you out of the parliment very soon. and then you will realise that you made blunder mistake.

The thinking that 123 agreement will make India a better nation is misplaced.
I think 123 agremment will bring many shock news for India in future.
Its better that India acts wise and stays away from this deal.
Thanks
