LET INDIAN PUBLIC DECIDE WHETHER IT IS RIGHT OR WRONG!!!
by wani bhardwaj on Aug 19, 2007 06:17 PM  Permalink

A quick perusal of the 123 Agreement released shows that many of India's concerns have not been fully addressed.

The Hyde Act: When the Hyde Act was passed last year, we were told that it was an internal matter that did not concern India. But now it has been formally admitted that in the negotiations, India accepted the US position that they could not go outside the framework of the Hyde Act.

Article 2.1 of the 123 Agreement makes it very clear that the Hyde Act and other US laws will prevail. What has happened to our concerns about the extraneous and prescriptive provisions of the Hyde Act?

Nuclear Apartheid: For all the spin given by the protagonists of the agreement that this would liberate India from `nuclear apartheid', Article 5.2 of the 123 Agreement rules out transfer of any sensitive nuclear technology. This will have to be amended before any such transfer can take place.

Furthermore, there is no change in the position regarding dual-use items. These remain subject to the prevailing laws, regulations etc. in USA. Where are the much-touted benefits of access to technology?

Reprocessing: Article 6 (iii) does talk of consent to reprocess. However, it kicks in only after India has set up a dedicated reprocessing facility and the two sides have agreed on arrangements and procedures.

There is silence on what would happen if the two sides do not reach agreement on these arrangements and procedures. All that is envisaged is that consultations will begin within 6 mo

its good decision by our PM,if our country wants to develop, then this deal will be mile stone for our economy.

our country can have vast growth , but the main problem is due to lack of energy resources and petroleum products so nothing harm to worry abt nuclear deal..

Chinese Party of India (Marxist)
by ebanner on Aug 19, 2007 06:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

People of India have no confusion and thinks it is a best negotiated agreement for India. When Computer came the "left" told it will reduce employment and oppose it, now their leaders are carrying laptops. For all things they oppose first and make hardships for Government and later they enjoy the benefits.
Only our neighbors are anxious about this agreement. Their anxiety is the anxiety of the left. At any cost Manmohan Govt. should go ahead with this and implement this.
Let the left go to China!

US is working out a hidden agenda
by Palakkadan on Aug 19, 2007 06:05 PM  Permalink

US has become ready to offer some sort of support in this regard (Nuclear energy) is due to the fact that India has gone a long away in indigenous nuclear development. India has made tremendous achievements in nuclear development and rocket technology. If India does not have any development in these technologies..... will they help India in doing so? Never.... Because they want to take credit in it and want to use India as a weapon against emerging challenges from China. They are well planned. We should not seek any help from US and we should not forget the help offered by the Russia for the past 5 decades. Dr. M. Singh is only a Finance Expert. He doesn't the policy India maintained since Independence.

LET US BE CLEAR......
by UmaShankar SathyaKumar on Aug 19, 2007 06:00 PM  Permalink

In the real NEW world, America need India and India need America.... In a multi-polar world, America has very few friends...countless enemies....It is necessary and in the best interest of Americans to work with Indians to be friends...

The US government debt grows by about $1.3 billion per day and has now crossed more than $13.2 trillion dollars. The US private household debt has now crossed more than $14.7 trillion and half of these debts have been incurred after 1998. The fact is that the expanding consumer debt drives the US economy. The US treasury receives about $1.3 trillion from taxes, the Indo-US nuclear deal is $25 billions and there are several sales by US to follow such as Boeing planes, F-16s, space technology..... The US now very desperately needs a growing partner and friendly country to make more money with depleting US economy. Also, a big voice to support its decisions from Asia on its foreign policies.

America is bankrupt. So, they need ASIAN money to buy their bread and butter by selling Nuke or whatsoever technology....

There is nothing wrong to get the nuke technology. If they try to screw India, screw them back like they have done to Germans in 1940-70's. USE AMERICA....

The lefts in Bengal made millions poor!! That's their big achievement to date..... Please.... NEVER VOTE TO LEFTS....

At least economic policies of Manmohan made millions of Indians to eat three meals a day.. I am one among them...

123 Agreement
by VIJAYAKUMAR SR on Aug 19, 2007 05:55 PM  Permalink

The Left's reaction is in tune with the tone and tenor of the Chinese reaction and nothing more nor less.
First the Left expressed concerns about wording of some Clauses of the Agreement. Now their objection is not only to the Agreement itself but to Joint Naval Exercises and what not.
It is just that the Left parties want to prove to their Masters in Beijing that they( the Leftists) are more loyal than the KING.

Messing with long term future
by parijat singh on Aug 19, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink

The nuclear deal is one of the best things that could happen to India. Forget about the political implications and security issues for a while, and think about the common man - We will have uniterrupted power supply - something that's commonplace and taken for granted in European nations. Imagine working on your pc for an entire day without the power going off! This is what this deal would bring us. The leftists are making an unneccesary rant. They would rather have the pleasure of throwing their weight and feeding their egos than act towards the progress of the nation
