If India elected a woman president, does it automatically mean that India has become a more virtuous country overnight? Bullshit.

Respect the president for who he or she is. Not for her gender. She is the first lady president of the country. She made history that way. Leave it at that.. The fact that there hasn't been lady president for 60 years, or that USA has not had a lady president till date doesn't mean anything.

Jayant Pawar,

Tell me one other president who has moved out of his comfortable rashtrapati bhavan confines and travelled the length and breadth of the country addressing meeting after meetig with the future generation of the country, inspiring them to have and pursue their dream! Tell me one better qualified person who has represented our country in international forums...

I wish there were some people in this forum who have actually had the opportunity to have met Dr Kalam on one of this trips as president.

Also consider Kalam's vision for India by the year 2020... Know that the president of India practically has no power. Yet, he has done so much for us... be a little respectful man

I hate to say this, but this is a rant from a frustrated ghati who probably supported the decision of electing Pratibha 'a-joke-by-sonia' Patil to the office of president. Highlighted is the fact that a person asks questions about Dr. Kalam's contibution to the betterment of our nation. EIther he was in a coma for the past 5 years or he's a thoroughbred ghati.

Sad to say but nothing measurable has come up so far , we can go on and on with things like given below , as they are not measurable.(Just big talks)we have not hear any one telling what Dr Kalam has done as a president.

Galvanise the people of the nation
2. Evoke enthusiasm in the future generation ( even in defunct people like u)
3. Re-establish the sanctity of the position of President of India ( which has been degrading).
4. Elicit respect at world forums where top leaders are highly educated and our stupid Indian leders cant even talk.
5. Give a direction scientific to the nation irrespective of the stupid politicians.

Just because you seem be a numbers guy -

Number of bill signings when he did not like the content - Zero.

Number of times he remained a rubber stamp - Zero.

Number of people met during his tenure - 10 laks?

Number of young minds ignited - 25 laks??

Number of people in the country who would relentlessly support him - 80%??

Number of e-mail responses from the president's office to small kids who wrote to him - Sorry, I dont have the time to count.

I believe it would be the interaction with kids and propagating the dream of a developed India. Having some one for the young generation to look up to, in my estimation, is very important. He would have been such a figure even if he was not the President, but, by being a president he had more previleges that he put to this use.

BTW, what was the greatest achievement of any president in the modern era, say, from the 1970s or so? Do you expect the president to indulge in policy development, decision making, or any of the other functions that come under the PM and the council of ministers or the parliament???

And if Kalam was the PM rather than the president, he would definitely have worked towards all of the stuff mentioned above.

Accomplishments of a president in India can be none bcos he is bound to be a figurehead.

The president in India is to be made bcos of the past accomplishments of the person. But nonetheless, Dr. Kalam's accoplishments as President (apart from his accomplishments due to which he became the President ) are:-

Any doubts?
