US mum on PM's comment
by Bodh Ramdeo on Aug 14, 2007 07:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Which planet is this sehadri person living in - certainly not on this earth, for surely if he did, he'd know that English is the international language, everywhere, which even the xenophobic Madarins and Japanese have gone into overdirve to learn. Grow up, please!

well, the japanese do not learn english as their first and the only language. i think that was seshadri ji's point. a lot of educated hindus do not know their mother language well, very much unlike the average japanese who can write wonderful poems in japanese. you will find it is not easy to get by in japan with english - even in tokyo. same applies to chinese who are very proud of hteir civilization, culture and hence their language.

A little ''out of the way'' post...
by Seshadri on Aug 14, 2007 02:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

people who post messages here in perfect english think that they are intellectuals in have a good "hand" in english...

it is the slavish mentality of indians that we are licking the leftovers of the british raj... justice, administration, constitution are all modelled based on the british way...

and for all those who carp that english is an essential skill know that... people in europe have scant respect for the english (the language as well as the people)...

history cannot be undone... let us all learn sanskrit which is our indigenous language... english can be a byproduct.... for others to deal with us...

Language is knowledge. Whatever language it may be. Learning a new language makes a man intellectual for he/she gets the ability to study the books written in that language and also finds it easy to understand the culture of the people who speak that language.
British raj was required for India. Because of British (I do not deny that they have done some atrocities and looting) we realise that customs like sati and untouchability are crimes and immoral.
People who are fluent in a language are respected in the world.
It is not a slavish mentality to learn English. People learn English because it is an international language. Even Chinese have started learning English. Indians are preferred in US,UK and other countries because of their knowledge in English.
Ironically you are advising to give preference to sanskrit, an outdated language. This is the problem with brahmins. They advise other people not to learn anything which is of foreign origin while enjoying life in US and Europe.

Language is a means not the end...

The ability of a man is neither impaired nor upgraded by a language per se. Language is a tool by which one can express better; even then there are various factors like culture, geography etc.

It is anyone's liberty now to accredit the British for the abolition of superstitions that were prevalent in India. One cannot deny that these practices might have slowly perished even without the British. Anyway these are not subjects that can be explained in a small forum like this.

About English being an international language, I would put it thus: PEOPLE LEARNT ENGLISH AND HENCE IT IS AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE.

In the same breath : SANSKRIT IS NOT LEARNT AND HENCE WE HAVE MADE IT AN OUTDATED LANGUAGE.

And what happened to your civilized senses when you compare advocating Sanskrit to Brahmins. I am a Brahmin and I learnt english as all of us did. But I also know Tamil and Hindi and amd learning Sanskrit for the wonders it holds.

Did your sweet knowledge of English tell you that a statement from an individual can be utilised to make a sweeping comment on a whole community?

Did I ever mention not to learn English?

So "Cape Comorin" or whoever you are... know that knowledge is unblemishable... languages cannot taint it...

And furthermore I pity you for your depraved mentality which makes you speak thus:
"This is the problem with brahmins. They advise other people not to learn anything which is of foreign origin while enjoying life in US and Europe"

This only shows your biased outlook.

Ability to understand the culture and literature requires knowledge in a particular language.
People are learning English. Why? It is bread-winner for many. NRIs are the best examples.
Why is sanskrit not learnt? Because one community proclaimed that it is only their property.
It is not my depraved mentality to say that brahmins befooled (now tring to befool) others. It is the fact.

You are free to view your perception...

I would not prolong this discussion, but I dont remember reading anything to the effect that Sanskrit is the property of Brahmins or that they had benefitted by fooling others.

It is the greed, lust and jealousy of the "others" that makes them think so. You are not Mr. Know - all to speak facts, and also your comments would not alter the truth.

Ha... funny that you should say that...

For all that you say... am proud of my forefathers that they had such wisdom and knowledge...

I also envy that... they did not have to live in an age filled with fools and half-wits like you...

I know how much wisdom and knowledge your forefathers had. They did nothing except cheating the kings in the name of religion to fill their stomach, harassing people in the name of caste to satisfy their sadistic feeling, spreading superstitions and myths among people. You shold be proud of those wicked species.
If your 'intelligent' forefathers live today they can't cheat us because we are educated. They will surely commit suicide because they can't tolerate non-brahmins excel in all the fields.

I know you can't prolong this discussion. You have no points to discuss. Your conscience (if you have one) must be telling you that what your forefathers did were wrong. It is not lust or jealous, it is pain that brahmins made that think us like that.

I have gone through your messages. You are not only making mistakes in writing but even the messages are idiotic. What is the issue you conveyed in the message?
"As we know Mr. Manmohan never goes to even loo withour permission of Sonia Gandhi". loo means toilet. How ugly your message is. Our PM is not an illiterate or stupid. He is a PhD. And he had been a reserve bank governer for years. You are criticising such a great personality with your stinky words.
Which leader will or can take decision on important issues like Indo-US nuclear agreement without consulting with other leaders? Did your Vajpayee take decision without consulting with Advani? Think before writing.

By the way, what is the meaning of the word, " dedeucted"? I found it in your message.

This is a open forum. Anybody can reply to any message. No permission is required.
But when you post messages do remember that they will be read by all the kinds of people (not only supporters of one party)
I do not think that Sonia is a dictator who makes our PM puppet. I do not say that she is not corrupt. But she is more decent in her behaviour and talks. In her capacity as ruling party leader she has influence. In important issues there is nothing wrong on the part of PM to consult with party leaders. For that matter you do not want to go to the extent of saying that our PM is seeking permissions from Sonia even for silly things.
