At last some one is able to say No . Pleapolecomming from abroad think they are god. They know to travelbut forget to carry important documents "PASSPORT with VISA"
FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T INTERFERE WITH THE WORKING OF IMMIGRATION OFFICERS, THEY ARE DOING THEIR DUTY BY FOLLOWING THE LAW OF LAND. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY REDIFF PUBLISHES SUCH SORIES AT ITS WEBSITE, U CAN FACE SUCH AN SITUATION IN ANY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ACROSS THE GLOBE.
Excellent analysis, hope your mother was sent back to india if she requires a treatment. Hope it happens to you also. For granting visa its ok, these are just money eaters but nothing else. Pay them few thousand RS they will drop you till your home.
Mr. Thirtankar you are in a wrong place asking for mercy. In India plead for mercy won't work. Either you must have lot of money or political power to get things done as you wish. INDIA IS A COUNTRY RUN BY FOOLS AND DUMBS. They can allow a terrorist but not a 12 year old travelling with her family. They can allow Christian missionaries to stay for more than 6 months, but will try to show their power on poweless common man like you.
You must be very careful while traveling to India. My friend has to go through lot of hassles when he tried to get his 1 year old son Visa Extended. This is a Crazy country where dumb un-educated mass vote and select criminals as their leaders.

What is the law of the land ... if you are a government official try to srew up who ever don't give bribe or use influence :)))
First of all responsible citizen of any country should know and follow the rules like carrying passport and visa with them when they want to go out of the country. There is no excuse in that for forgetting such a thing. Also to note that US or any other country will not allow to enter any nationals without the documents. What immigration did was as per the law. But again immigration in India is also not something we can boast of. They are corrupt and hungry for money which I have experienced myself. In this case if some money was offered to them they would have helped these people.

MR.ABAS, tell me which country is not corrupt,&who will responsible for this. The people like u, cause u gave them bribe for clearing unauthorised luggage which u brought from what u called fro sophasticated country. All this happen cause of us only I am also frequent flyer still now nobody ask me abt money . I always carry required document, bring only those thing which is allowed in this country. Any body say any thing abt my country becuse THIS IS INDIA
Its quite bizarre how we all always try to find a fault with the Indian officials. I don't understand what has gone wrong. Before Tirthakar, Medha's father tries to get all sarcastic towards the officials and Sheetal before calling the officials stupid, just think for a second what would have America done if you arrived their with no visa. I think we all know the answer. So stop bitching about India and the officials. The American offficials follow these rules like a robot to the letter. Thank your stars that your family didn't get deported to a place like Guantanamo Bay or something. Why is it that these non-resident Indians, expect so much when it comes to India but for any other western country, they accept it as a rule with a smile on their face. Tirthankar, I don't think you or your family pay any tax in India or anything, then why do you think India should do you any favours. Plus its a rule, why does India have to do anything different from UK or US. Quite funny of these double standards for these pseudo confused Indian origin people living abroad. India is growing and so get used to these treatments. No more yes sir treatments just because you are coming from UK or US with dollars and pounds...

AND REGARDING TEMP VISA... NOBODY KNOWS HOW SHE HANDLED AUTHORITIES.. OR SHE THREW SOME TANTRUMS WHICH GOT AUTHORITIES ANNOYED...SO WAT THE AUTHORITIES DID SEEM TO BE RIGHT. In US if this same incident would have occured, with Indian Passport, the officials would have allowed. So stop presuming false notions. The officials in India are hungry for money. I think you didnt read that properly, the Srilankan minister was allowed in a similar kind of situation. Stop criticising the world, we as Indians have lost many of our values.

In US if u could prove had a visa and she being a child would have let them. Anyway US is much advance and have much better rules for children.

Ya, that is why they arrest you, just because you look like an Indian/Pakistani/ anything other then American.

Mr Jayaprakash and Mr. Chopra, you've got to be some crazy persons. Noone is arrested in US simply because of their appearance and like Jeevan said US has some softer approach to children, or I should say some decency. I am not an Indian anymore but law here in US is equal for everyone. If you both had the option you would change the nationality so let's not argue about loving India and protecting one's Indian origins.

U DONT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND.. THE THING IS I AM ALSO LIVING OUTSIDE INDIA BUT I WILL NEVER CHANGE MY NATIONALITY... AND ANYWAYS ITS OWN CHOICE... BUT THE THING IS NOW U R A US CITIZEN SO U MUST UNDERSTAND THAT IN THIS CASE THE RULES HAVE BEEN BROKEN BY THE LADY SO SHE PAID FOR THAT... BUT ITS NO FAULT OF AUTHORITIES.. SOMETIMES THEY SLEEP AND SOMETIMES THEY WAKE UP... AND NOW WE CANNOT FINGERPOINT THEM AT THEIR APPROACH THIS TIME....
Will the US immig. allow me or my 10 year old son to enter if I say that i forgot my visa? Why do these rich, educated fools do not understand that the officials are just following the rules. American citizens cannot enter India without a valid visa. When India enforces the rules, these people cry foul, and same guys loath lack of rules in India. Double-standard NRI's.

The US officials won't allow you, but your son might have a chance. And moreover the laws in US are the same for everyone. It's that which makes the difference. Did you read the article properly? The Srilankan minister was allowed in a similar kind of situation.
Look at the last sentence! "I hope bureaucrats at higher levels hear about this incident, so that another 12-year-old doesn't have to go through the same ordeal," he added." He should have added something like this. "Since we live in USA, we expect the same privileges given to politicians in india."
