It is nice to know that ISRO is planning a big way in going commercial and going with small satellites which is more fetching. But i sincerely feel that the moon mission should not be taken up. It is only a fancy mission and but for getting some awards and rewards to our scientists, nothing can be achieved with that. Instead that money can be put on more useful projects. It is just a "I also Ran" kind of project. India needs to invest money more judiciously than some of the other countries. Lot of indians still live in poverty. We can't afford fancy projects.

Stop krishna, cut the crap. What is affordability? If you kind of people properly pay taxes, we can reach Mars too.

we are paying taxes properly but ask politiciens, businessmen and those corrupt bueocracy who are enjoying our money and doing nothing... you are true we can reach Mars also but only if we can eliminate curruption....

krishna "mission should not be taken up. It is only a fancy mission and but for getting some awards and rewards to our scientists, nothing can be achieved with that. Do you know how much research need to be done for that?how many schools will benifit? How many research agency will develop? How our knowledge will increase?Do you still want to believe in the technology of westerners for all your life u idiot? For once do you not want to be in the forefront of technology you looser.Teach your son that Long time before americans landed on moon and indians built closets 60 years after.Stupid guys like you always will find some excuse for not doing things.why dont you walk on the road instead of a bus and a car.Its built by westerners. If some idiots had thought it was a fancy mission and did not try to understand the science behind it,you would be walking still.Big loosers

rightly said Mr. BLUE WROX exactly what india need now participation of citizens by means of VOTING. Being fairly i am also not doing anything to be a politician but still i do exercise my right and duty to VOTE.
Though we have made some progress in Satellite manufacturing and launching we have not done so in nuclear field. The Super Computer manufacturing is also not doing exceeding well. May be all these are due to blocking by the Have-ones.
May be we start increasing investing on basic, applied and advance sciences from the new-found Dollars that we got from economic advancement. It will generate capable young minds toward Science as a consequence. And would eventually release us from dependence as most other developing country do on the developed ones, for every thing.

All Scientific and technology advancements need to have an economic basis to reach maturity. The technology must be spread for wider acceptance and over longer time so that "bugs" can be removed, it becomes cheaper and over time knowledge base grows.
In India's case only ISRO has had an economic platform, largely because of India's own needs. Otehr areas you mention, there is not enough demand or applications within India for things to go far. That's why you see most tech research in US, Europe and Japan. It is not just the superior and world class facilities there it is also that as incremental research happens, there is already a demand for that to give it economic basis.

We have to simultaneously invest adequately on the frontier tecnologies and remove the bottlenecks every where. Also the sources of corruption and the government interference are to be removed, before we think of saying we are going to be a developed nation.
In fact, the satellite industry itself started on small launch vehicles. That was the time when large capacity launch vehicles were yet to be developed. However, as miniaturisation -especially electronics and related control systems- was not advanced, there was a limitation on size reduction that could be achieved in satellite design. This, combined with the race to put man in space gave impetus to development of powerful large payload carrying rockets. Now that miniaturization has matured considerably and entered the realm of nano-technology, miniaturization of satellites is very much possible. However, putting such nano-tech based satellites and conducting research and experiments in space are still expensive as the unit cost -i.e, Rupees per kg- of putting a satellite in even near-earth orbit has not come down at all despite great strides in launch vehicle development. It is an opportune time now to develop small, efficient and low cost launch vehicles in a fairly wide range. For instance, there is no point in offering only a 200 kg or a 500 kgs payload launch vehicle. Then a research lab wanting to launch a 40 kg or a 80 kg or even a 300 kg satellite will have to wait till sufficient cargo accumulates for a viable commercial launch. Instead, ISRO could develop a series of launch vehicles with payload capacities of 50, 80, 100, 150, 200 and 300 kg capacities. These could be offered as exclusive launches for individual customers. This way ISRO can promote its services worl
