He doesnt deserve this. He has had a difficult life. He has done some valuable service for this country. Let us give him the benefit of the doubt. No, I am not a fan of his but he deserves a chance for entertaining so many of us for so many years. Let him go!!!
So.. if I get to act in noble films, and become a hero on reel... can I procure illegal weapons. If I'm born in a celebrity family, I could do drugs - "poor guy"??? What makes anyone think he'll become a Mahatma now??? Did he not have infinite chances in the past?? He's born into wealthy/celebrity family, what then is the "need" to suck upto and lick upto the underworld as caught on tapes?? And that too after becoming a star.. after soo many lessons in life??I can imagine someone paying underworld to stay out of trouble -- but kissing their... Sympathy for Sanjay Dutt - Why???
The conclusions border on incomplete analysis and is a bit hypocritical. Sanjay did the mistake and let him pay for it. It was not a small error. If you had lost somebody due to this action, then I bet your analysis would take an 180 degree turn. Regarding gandhian values, every fighter glorified or not by the media and history texts are great. It is every value that led to the freedom of india not just gandhian values and i like violence as much as i do non-violence. Non-violent values is good with one's dear friends but do you think it will work with one's enemies? or say terrorists? Thats reality. The topic of bringing every criminal to books is entirely different. I agree no matter whom, he/she should be given punishment. There should be secret agencies who do that in case the law doesnt do it! And this agency can look at justice per se rather than with the rules book.

Sanjay dutt didnt write, direct, script, edit or produced munnabhai. He was given a chance to work in it and he did. He wasn't instrumental in bringing gandhian values to public. If it would have been given to salman, would salman become a righteous person???

I agree completely with you. The credit should go to the Director Hirani for creating such a beautifull piece of work.
Sanjay was a good actor. And should not be pardoned because he did a fabulous job.
If he needs to be pardoned, then may be judiciary and legislatives should consider the circumastances in which he picked uo gun. And the kind of social work he has been doing in all thses years.
If Docoits of Chambal could be pardoned then Sanjay too can be pardoned.
Average person does not have the celebrity status and following that these Bollywood stars do. If they are going to ask for the law to be suspended because of their beloved movie star, then these same people have no right to complain about justice being lenient on the rich in this country.
Admittedly, not the brightest comment on this topic. I am sure you may want to reconsider. How about taking Criminal Justice 101?
Realistically, how did you get hired as a Prof (you ARE a prof, right? tenured? tenure-track? I doubt it). I mean, are you sure your Univ would approve the content(no, not for the viewpoint but for the deficiency in intellectual content)?
Or is it that you are an ABCD looking for an opportunity to exploit India/Indianness for personal gains?
This guy kept arms like ak47 at his home and had links with the guys who blasted mumbai. He might not have taken part in crime. As a accomplice to the crime, he was handed the punishment.
We have to wait and see. I bet he will be released soon. Congress MP Priyanka Dutt has met the CEO of India and we have to see what happens now.
Remember, when behenji won in UP, CEO of India gave her a present next day. CBI dropped all the cases against behenji in taj corridor case and as a result of it we got the best president India has ever got
