Bad article
by secret secret on Aug 05, 2007 03:21 PM  Permalink

I agree with most posts below. This is a bad article by someone who's trying to sound deep.

The worst sentence is this:

"Sanjay has more than paid a price for what was a momentary lapse, not even of conscience, but of judgment."

I am not even going to talk about that. Next in the list of Vamsee's poor thinking is this:

"Such a view does not stand up against the public knowledge that those who have done far worse crimes walk free every day."

By this logic, until the worst criminal in India is punished, no other should be.

Then:

"And it seems, most of all, an utter shame and waste that a man whose work has done more than any other leader or celebrity to revive a passion for Mahatma Gandhi in this country should be locked away."

The movie just _starred_ Sanjay Dutt. He did not envision it, write it or make it. And if not him, there would have been other actors who would do it. Does that make all of them worthy of being let go for crimes?

Next, let Salman Khan make a movie espousing Gandhism, so he can be let go by judges who think like you.

This is one of the worst articles I have read on rediff.com. Every sentence is full of specious logic.

The law _was_ lax and fair towards Dutt - he was not filed under TADA, though his crime technically fell under it. You don't let a person go since he _happened_ to star in a movie about Gandhi. He erred, he was punished.

Gandhian Gangster
by Prakash Desai on Aug 05, 2007 03:17 PM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Vamsee,
It seems you are supporting illegal underworld activities in india. Do you want to produce million films on Gandhi Philosophy with all the underworld goons acting as Gandhi and then make them indian national heroes and indian people worship them?

Shame
by Niraj K. Rai on Aug 05, 2007 11:20 AM  Permalink

This is shame that there are people who are coming to support someone whi is facing serious charges for such a serious crime. When will we get rid of our emotion and let the judiciary decide and take action irrespective of the influence or personality or wealth of a person. It was shocking to read that sonia gandhi is coming in support of a person, who is guilty of buying arms from dreaded terrorist, just because his sister if from congress or his father was an MP of congress party.

Vamsee is another Manmohan Singh
by SatyaMeva Jayate on Aug 05, 2007 11:10 AM  Permalink

I see Vamsee as a weak hearted sentimentalist with a volatile memory.

Vamsee mentions:
"Their moral universe knows that Sanjay has more than paid a price for what was a momentary lapse, not even of conscience, but of judgment."

Even if that was a momentary lapse, how on earth Vamsee can justify Sanjay's contacts with underworld a good seven years after the Mumbai bomb blast (recorded conversation between Sanjay and underworld in 2000).

Vamsee says:
"And it seems, most of all, an utter shame and waste that a man whose work has done more than any other leader or celebrity to revive a passion for Mahatma Gandhi in this country should be locked away."

If Sanjay follows Gandhian principles, he would have acted in the movie without accepting a salary. But, every one knows he accepted crores of Rupees for this movie.

So, Sanjay being told as a Gandhian, do-gooder, innocent at heart are total bull.

I do not understand why people like Vamsee, Manmohan Singh etc., lose sleep and peace of mind over criminals and terrorists.

Subject and the actor
by Vamsi Krishna on Aug 05, 2007 10:27 AM  Permalink

Real life is different to the screen life. NTR acted as Rama in several movies. Did he have one wife ( Ek Patni Vrath). In far end of his life, he was to seek comfort in another woman.
Sanjay Dutt is a spoiled brat. Acting in a role which idolizes Mahatma Gandhi does not make saint and Gandhian.

What a load bull...

Vamsee Juluri - you being a Associate Professor in a well known in the US should feel to write such an article. I am shocked beyond words you want to compare Sanjay Dutt with the father of our nation. Did Mahatma Gandhi procure Guns and Granades to protect himself vigilante style? It is a very poor article written just to go along with the current emotions and try to gain some cheap popularity. A real shame Vamsee Juluri...

I believe the article is a load of bull... and the bottomline is Sanjay Dutt is a terrorist who was on the side of the anti-nationals. No matter how many good films he makes, he will not be able to erase his past.

I would be very curious if you can repeat the same antics Sunjay Dutt did and when US authorities catch you, I would keenly watch the results. Dare to try....?

"I am shocked beyond words you want to compare Sanjay Dutt with the father of our nation."

I read the entire article again and did not find any such comparison.

The author describes Sunjay Dutt aa a"celebrity to revive a passion for Mahatma Gandhi in this country should be locked away"". But this is not comapring Sunjay with Gandhiji.

You have either not read the article, or your are hallucinating.
