food for thought ..maybe!
by nikhil gupta on Aug 03, 2007 12:35 AM  Permalink

Well,Mr Shenoy has done a fine job bringing out almost all the facts n watever had been left out has been covered in subsequent posts.Im glad that everyone is coming to terms with reality.Afterall only those people take the pain of writing and expressing their views who although are unhappy with the way the administrative system works in our country at times but at the same time they are optimistic about the future. The Law is definitely above all..celebrities,the common man, police officials, the bureaucracy and the most hard working n most deserving of em all(all puns intended) our modern day politicians !! But its ironical how some(or fer that matter, numerous) criminals like mohinder singh pandher(Noida D-5 killings),mohd afzal, killers of prof sabherwal by the youth wing of the ruling party in a particular state, monica bedi(being acquitted of all charges) n a few days ago the acquital of dawood ibrahim's brother, not to mention the manu sharmas and the vikas yadavs who will eventually make it ..who we all know were freed because of the kinds of links they had.I do not mean to question Judge Kode's decision nor do i want to suggest that Sanjay Dutt is innocent and be freed so easily(knowing the fact that he has already bin in jail fer 1.4 years earlier).Im not a fan of Sanjay Dutt movies. But,dont u think when so many hardcore crinimals are going scot free, a sentence for 6 years is a litttle harsh on Sanjay and his family!! please, please think about it.

Mr. Nikhil

you are absolutely right. From a neutral point of view it is clear that S Dutt is being made a scapegoat. He had his punishment, now the law should be chasing the real thugs.

Less punishment enough for someone not a danger to society.
by Sandeep on Aug 03, 2007 12:30 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This just looks like a piece of biased journalism. The reasons you give are not even on fringe of this case.
What is relation to any threats being received by Nikam? Surely you don%u2019t think Sanjay is responsible?
You also do not say, who called in Chota Shakeel conversation? If Chota Shakeel did, what are you supposed to do? Hang up?

No-one is denying the fact that he was not a good law abiding person 13 years back. But it%u2019s been too long and Indian law would rather spend more time on dangerous hardened criminals than keep on harping about someone almost no danger to society. Probably a 3 yrs, good fine and community service would have sufficed.

Also, remember in 92-93, rampaging mobs were running around and his family had already received threats. If customs and police could allow guns to be brought in with some bribe, it does not inspire lot of confidence in system. Add a little bit of machoism and you will perfectly see why he could have gotten the gun for self protection. BTW, if you have ever seen mobs violence(I did get a glimpse in 82 riots) You will quickly see why things could have gone the way they did.
You can either hide in face of threats or take some action.

Though one good thing about this is it keeps gullible and foolish people of India happy and hopeful thinking justice has been served. This might be good for India as you need hope to make things better. They of-course ignore that there were also 9 politicians who were caught with ill

Not at all. He has committed crime; nobody on earth can imagine what he would have done with AK56. Punishment he has received is for illegally possessing arms. He must face the music. Nobody can be above law.

No one is Above Law-Article by Mr. T V R Shenoy
by on Aug 03, 2007 12:28 AM  Permalink

Mr. Shenoy has written the words every law abiding Indian would love to write but does not find time between work and home. Unless Indian Democratic Processes shows sincerity in action, like as in this case, the respect for law will and the democracy cannot survive.

Media ofcourse would have cried "Foul" had Mr. Kode let Sanjay "free" under any account. Now that he has done his job sincerely, then also they are crying "Foul". Both ways they have fodder so that Media sells. Do they have any principle?

Judiciary can deliver justice only if the offenders are put to trial. Unfortunately these crooks are in a higher (legislative) power put in place by our dumb democracy of ignorant voters. I wish they are put to trial some day, and be punished not only for 1984 deeds but every deed of their wicked life.
