Second Term
by dhrub thakur on Apr 30, 2007 06:03 PM  Permalink

Now when the President has not refused to be continued the President of India in the secon term, the political partties of India specially Congress and Communist should show maturity, respect the popular will of the people and work in the interest of the Country rather than again playing a dirty political game in the name of Sechuled Cast/Tribe etc.
Congressi wouldnt like to support him for the 2nd term because he definitely not going to sign any document blindly just for the short term political gain of Congress and its allies like Governors of various states appointed by congress led Govt.

He is such kind of personality who is beyond criticism. In the contemporary history no body is supposed to as acceptable as the president of India as Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Congress is not in hurry to clarify its stand before the selctions of UP is over, because it may affect its interest.

The media should come forward in support of Mr. Kalam by showing survey and will of the mighty public.

2nd term for Mr.Kalam
by Shridhar Iyer on Apr 30, 2007 05:56 PM  Permalink

I personally feel, by far he is one of the good and efficient presidents of this country. If he is given a second term, it will be good for the country.

However, the political parties, as you know may not be comfortable with a professional like Mr.Kalam, and may like to go for a political and more pliable candidate. They may even try to search for a candidate who belongs to 'vote bank' poitics category. If this goes through, then the country may lose a good President like Mr.Kalam.

I wish all our Ministers in the Centre as well as in every State, including the President, Vice-Presidents, etc. are well qualified and thorough professionals like Mr.Kalam so that all decisions are taken in a professional manner only (without vote bank considerations) so that our country progresses much faster.

With best wishes,

V.Srinivasan.

Dear Saju,

Your list is quite impressive. You can also include great people like Infosys Narayana Murrthy, T.N.Seshan, etc. However they may not be liked by the political parties, because they are all independent thinking people, and will always think about the nation as a whole, which may not suit our politicians who want to cling on to power at any cost. Thats why we are still labelled as a 'developing nation'.

With best wishes,
v.Srinivasan.

Out OF 17 16 messages are in favour of Mr.Kalam.

Perhapes his crediblity as being non-politicain as president, made him in favour of all these remarks. In india if democarcy exits, then of copurse he should be given 2 nd term. But in this period he should try to purify the political atmosphere of the Country.

CPM will oppose any one who rejects their acts of defying constitution
by pradeep agarwal on Apr 30, 2007 05:48 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The problem with CPM is not Mr.Kalam but his independent thinking on matters that are of national importance. We all know the legacy of CPM & their unpatriotic actions during independence movement,China war & desire for a foreginer to be made PM after defeat of NDA in last elections.

I was advised to take my business elsewhere when I considered setting up a cold store towards price stabilisation and local produce encouragement. They were right, Cost Model 2, that included junction labor utilisation, would have ruined my life savings and family future.

Were you planning to set up a business for charity or for making profits? During the Balance of payment crisis in the early 1990s, the NRIs were the first to withdraw their deposits from India like rats deserting sinking ships. So NRIs like you have no moral right to blame anybody including the CPI(M).

Kalam should have 2nd term
by Biswajit Ghoshal on Apr 30, 2007 05:45 PM  Permalink

He is a model Indian citizen. However he needs to be more assertive with the Govt and his dealing the case of Afzal Guru was not appropriate. Otherwise, he has a good visionary skills and also he is unblemished by politics. If he is gone, Congress would do everything to put a congresswalla, someone like the Buta Singh (the great sonia-bootlicker), and give the presidentship of India a bad name.

Kalam for 2nd term
by Ashok Trivedi on Apr 30, 2007 05:45 PM  Permalink

If ever I was in doubt about Kalam for 2nd term, the communists have removed it. If they want Kalam out, it means that it is good for India if he is President again. Opposite of commies means good for India. This formula never fails.

shorter term
by on Apr 30, 2007 05:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There should be shorter term for this ceremonial post so that more people could get a bite of the cherry. Lord Mayor in the city of London is appointed every year--one parade & thank you very much.(more then 700 year old tradition)

Once you keep someone for 5 years--they do not want to leave. Too much luxury. Actually you can not blame them--they are also HUMANS.

You are absolutely right. I still remember the late President Mr. KR Narayanan pleading for a second term, despite failing health. Though I have a lot of respect for President Abdul Kalam, I feel that there is no need to have him President for a second term. There are many other distinguished personalitieis available in our Country. So some one else should be given a chance.
