Good point man,the problem in India sometimes seems to be the itch some troublemakes seem to have using trivial insignificant matters into headlines.....people should know and realise that by Mandira bedi wearing a melange of world flags and the national flag being at a lower level, by Murthy prefering the tune to lyrics of our national anthem or Shilpa Shetty being kissed by R.Gere.....such things do not smudge, belittle or insult our great nation, its culture, heritage, history, sacrifice and knowledge in any way, not even a pin prick.

But where are these hecklers, troublemakers, firestarters when it comes to our national animal, our national symbol, our pride and a world rarity of a beautiful, powerful Indian animal-The tiger's demise in population???.

Some of these people might be even directly involved in its reduction.

Tigers being sent to Africa
by American on Apr 30, 2007 09:59 PM  Permalink

Over the last few years there is a program going on to try and breed bengal tigers in Africa, they have been successful to certain extent i hope they are able to get tigers live in Africa.
This program is funded by US and people from Nat GEO USA are involved in it. It's certain that in a few years the Indian greed will wipe away all tigers from India.

Those who come to this board complaing about govt not doing anything have you guys ever done anything or funded any tiger protection org.? The anwser would be NO, because you like many million indians do NOT CARE!!!

Tigers

I agree with Belinda Wright, Indira Gandhi was the only PM in the history of India who initiated work for environment protection: Ganga Action Plan, Project tiger, project crocodile etc. Some good work was followed on by Rajiv Gandhi. But since then, on this aspect, there has been a full stop. Many people dont know that cheetah has been wiped out already and tigers are on the brink of extinction. (I read the messages and saw what the priorities of the people were).
Most poaching is done on the orders of the Chinese across the border who use tiger bones and body parts in Chinese medicines. And there are people who will decorate their homes with tiger skins and wear tiger claw bracelets. I wonder, if this issue has been taken up in India-China meetings.

Chinese will protect the Giant Panda which is the symbol of China. They will also protect the South Chinese and Siberian Tigers although they killed of a lot of these animals during Mao's time. But they want to kill all our Bengals. This is their way of showing who is boss in Asia. The biggest trouble is that a million Indians are willing to go an poach a tiger for a few thousand Rupees on the instructions of their Chinese Handlers.
Now in China, Just try poaching a Giant Panda and smuggling its skin across the border to India.
I can guarantee that in 6 hours you will be facing a firing squad.
Tigers are AS MUCH a symbol of India as the Taj Mahal. The trouble is that Indians don't give a damn about it.
This is what is missing. The whole system is rotten from the top.
The first thing we need to do is to completely clear human habitation surrounding our forests.
We need to increase our forest area by 20% and
be willing shoot anyone who tries to settle in these forests.

Punishment
by Poison Ivy on Apr 30, 2007 03:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We must award death penalty for confirmed Tiger poachers. Life imprisonment for all those who assisted. Thats the only way to save the tiger.

There is the provision of death penalty for murder, but what is the conviction rate ????

Even if convicted by the court, what is the assurance that the court order will be executed in timely manner. The cases can be reffered as that of Afzal's conviction in attack on parliament.

SAVE TIGET TO GET WATER
by lakshmiNarasimha G on Apr 30, 2007 02:09 PM  Permalink

We all should really remember and realize the punch line "SAVE TIGER TO GET WATER%u201D from Mr. Vivek Thapar,Author,a conservationist and one of the world's leading experts on Indian tigers.

He clearly explained the phenomenon in detail saying tigers being solitary cats needs big territories and hence the big forest. Most of the rivers in India originates at these forests ultimately supplying the water source required for the survival of "We selfish Human".

SO let us all save the tiger to get water if not to save %u201CMagnificent, Solitary, Nocturnal cat-The TIGER".
